marriage threatened but well worth the effort to save it.

Having been the recipient before (and I survived the life threatening sitch then), I know it can at least ease the pain.

It's not physical, maybe, but it hurts like hell all the same.

Sorry to read of your situation.

But it sounds a lot like a few boomer couples I know. Life-long friends: I've known them for decades. I saw them date, get engaged, marry, have kids, then split up. I've seen them grow from youth to middle age; I've seen them put on weight while their hair turned gray. It's strange, but it's almost as if their splitting up completes a cycle that was destined to happen.

I don't know; there comes a time in one's life when an assessment takes place. A person will stop and evaluate his/her place. Is this life a "success?" A "failure?" Is there something more one can do? Something different to do? What mistakes were made and how could those mistakes have been avoided? Is change inevitable? One experiences great turmoil in searching for answers to these questions.

I only hope you can work things out. The "pursuit of happiness" can be a life-long journey...

couldn't have donw it without me--but I'm afraid I may not share his acheivement of it.

I'm happy for him (and will benefit--he will see to it I'm taken care of) but it looks as though I may cheer from the sidelones. So be it--I'm so very happy for him--he worked so hard to get there, no one knows better than me.
