OK David Gilmour's first Solo....
Whaddya think?

I think its his best, and much better than his other solo albums, "About Face", "Momentry Lapse of Reason" and "Division Bell"

1. I really liked it...
I saw him on tour when this came out. He had a really good band behind him.

He did all solo stuff and then ended with a floyd tune, I think it was money.

2. Better than "About Face" but I don't consider the Waters-less Floyd albums to be solo albums
I'd rather have "Momentary Lapse" and "Division Bell" than another album like "The Final Cut," which Gilmour has long claimed consisted of barrel-scrapings that the band had previously rejected during the sessions for "The Wall."

3. But you gotta admit
That was a good album, despite barrel scrapings

6. In all honesty I cannot listen to it.
My feeling was "there are no songs on this album." Gilmour hated it and he played on it. I'm gonna go with Gilmour on this one.

9. It's not about songs
It's about mood

It is a different kind of album, and I seriously think DG and RW had no idea what they had on their hands...

10. You're right, and I can't get behind the album's mood.

There are four choices, basically:

1). Pink Floyd, A.K.A. "The Wall" and all of the music that preceded it

2). The Final Cut

3). The Waters-less Floyd and solo Gilmour

4). Waters solo (For the record, the first Waters solo album "Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking" also (reputedly) is made up of tracks rejected by Pink Floyd).

So I'll go with 1 and 3. I got a kick out of Jeff Beck's solos on Waters' "Amused To Death," but other than that, it's 1 & 3 for me.

4. I would give anything to be able to play his solo on "Comfortably Numb."

7. You can. Just print the tab and be patient.
http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/p/pink_floyd/comfortably_numb_tab.htm

There are two secrets to this:

1). Play the notes S-L-O-W, just to get your fingers going where they should go. Don't try to "sound like" Gilmour on the first, second, or tenth try. Play it once a day until you spend less and less time looking at the tab.

2). As your fingers become adept at finding the notes, you can add nuance. I prefer the original "Wall" version of the solo, even though I've heard it many, many, MANY times (in addition to Gilmour, prof band Jadis has a nice live version, and Chris Squire and Billy Sherwood's Yes side-project "Conspiracy" covered it too).

Just do it, man, just do it. If it makes you happy (and I believe it would, judging from your post), do it.

5. I hope they reunite. Waters is in great shape. I don't know how David Gilmour is doing. NT.

8. I was disappointed that he didn't do any tunes from his first two solo albums during his recent tour
I like those much better than any of Waters' solo material.
