Why are "Away in a Manger" and "Silent Night" presented
on television and radio with 400 voice choirs and Mahler-scale symphony orchestras?
These songs are lullabies and not operatic choruses!

1. I don't know
I dislike both songs, and I don't understand their appeal. There are much better Christmas carols around.

2. The ones I loved no one around here knows or sings.
Jeg er saa glad paa Julekveld, Deilig er den Himelblaa, Steh'Ich bei Deine Krippe hier, O du Heilige, O du selige, Gnadenbringende Christenheit and the one we learned in college: Psallite Unigenito!

Alpha es et O, Alpha es et O.

3. Hey, I know all of those!
That what comes of being a Norwegian-German-Latvian ex-Lutheran-turned-Episcopalian.

You hear them in Minneapolis to a certain extent.

4. I'm glad you do.
I could hear them at Luther or Wartburg but one has to reserve tickets way in advance and it's a concert. Nothing like it was when I was a kid and sang them in church. Ah well. (They tossed out the old liturgy and settings too.)I can understand why people got upset when the Latin Mass was discontinued.
