It didn't really come as a shock, my company's been hemorraghing money and jobs for a while now. Still spent the day rapidly cycling through the Five Stages and hugging coworkers. I know the saying is, "laugh to keep from crying," but I just laugh because I'm utterly sick of crying. Crying gets so tedious.

Right now I'm enjoying my freedom and the fact that I don't have to commute in the shitty weather Chicago has been having. But that's going to give way to panic if I don't get a job before my severance runs out.

I still do have to commute in the shitty Chicago weather because I still have my part-time. (The main gig I got laid off from had benefits, but not enough income to pay the bill all by itself).

Seriously though, I hope you find an even better job. There are still jobs out there. It may be something you never thought you'd do, but please keep your chin up. :hug: Look at it this way- some people are quitting their jobs this month because some companies will offer early retirements. They are trying to get rid of the highest paid employees & will need to hire again soon. Also, some employees wait until December to quit just to get their Christmas bonuses, etc. That should provide some openings as well.

I moved to Texas without a job in January of 1989. Worked for a temporary agency a couple of weeks. It turned out, the second place I worked as a temp hired me after just a month.

anyhoo, seriously, that has got to suck, especially right before x-mas. i got canned the week before thanksgiving, so it's not been a picnic for me either.

make merry the best you can during this time of year. friends and family can be a good source of merry... provided they aren't a bunch of douchehammers

my advice: enjoy the holiday week, since 99% of employers won't be hiring til after the holidays are over. marshal your resources, and plan an attack to regain employment. this is war, and war is hell.
