Fwiw, I've worked in criminal defense for over 13 years - so I have a pretty good background on cop behavior, and the loopholes they use to get away with things they shouldn't be getting away with.

Texas most certainly isn't Jersey, but I'll just say this (and I imagine that most people already know this).....

In Jersey, drug busts are generally performed after tens of hours of stake outs. Having the technology we now have, many of these hours are videotaped.

IF the cops have been staking out the place, and saw the homeowners in possession of what appeared to be marijuana plants, that is probable cause. While videotapes are damning, so are eyewitness accounts given by cops. A warrant will most likely be drawn up.

Fwiw, the Philadelphia PD is notorious for its corruption - and our firm has dealt with ALOT of shit from them; having said that, we cannot allow their collective reputation dictate an individual case. It's easy to do - but to allow conclusions to be made, based on a police dept's reputation, would allow every criminal free reign of the city.

I've had my own run-ins with control-freak cops - so trust me when I say that I am not a naive believer in "we're here to serve and protect"; but there are many more honorable cops, than dishonorable cops. It sucks for the good cops to be ridiculed every time a bad cop abuses his power.

I would be curious to hear what the prosecutor's office and internal affairs has to say in this case.
