1. Is this on an MP3/WAV or something like that?
I use Wavepad to drop out this kind of background noise. It works
great. It doesn't tell me the actual frequencies, though.

2. Yes, on a WAV.
I have two very quiet recordings with a significant buzz in them. I can eliminate the buzz entirely, but it leaves a hiss I'd like to try to eliminate. I'm running on a Mac, but I can run Windows on the same machine, so any solution is helpful.

3. Well...
Wavepad is from NCH. It has a free trial, but it's well worth the money.

It has a noise reduction feature in Effects where you grab noise sample from
selected area, so you can highligyt a half a second or something of the hiss,
then apply spectral subtraction based on the selected area.

I transcribe audio for a living and this feature has saved me many migraines.

REAPER can do this (and other stuff) as well. Awesome program - free to try for 30 days then $49 bucks.

They have a MAC version - but it does lag the PC in features (have not tried the MAC).
