dirt floor, lithic walls mined out of the side of the mountain, set below the frost line, humidity-controlled and all. It's too bad that I don't drink wine. I put my washing machine and garden tools in there instead.

61. You can rent them...
the less common and the greater the demand in your area the more they cost. My grandparents paid the mortgage on a 4000sf ft. mountaintop mansion overlooking the Connecticut River Valley and lived comfortably off the rental-income by renting theirs out since neither of them drank.

The first thing we did when we inherited the house was boot out the wine-cellar renters because we didn't like the idea of a dozen keys to the house in the hands of strangers.

And a fabulous paperweight for holding open my books when I'm online and don't have enough hands to hold everything!

I had one of the best Christmases I've ever had...

54. Several things.
A rice cooker.

The book "My Stroke of Insight" by Jill Bolte Taylor, Ph.D.

A datebook for 2009 covered in beige silk chinese brocade.

Ferrero Rocher choco-bombs (the gold foil wrapped candy)

A calendar with pictures of Tuscany. I want to go there some day.

A Towle sterling silver 2008 bell Xmas ornament.

A Wallace sterling silver 2008 bell Xmas ornament.

A gold ball ornament with a small digital screen. My honey uploaded pictures to it and hung it on the tree. He loaded it with pictures of our NYC trip at Xmas 2003.

What I got for my studmuffin:

JOHN LENNON:THE LIFE, by Philip Norman. New biography with new information about John.

An electric skillet to make sukiyaki in.

A new winter jacket.

What else we did:

We have an electric menorah and are lighting it for Hanukkah. (We are both non-religious but love Xmas & any other holiday).

Cooked lots of food: Turkey, dressing, gravy, sweet potatoes with marshmallows on top; pinwheel cookies with walnuts on top; chocolate cream cheese pie.

We couldn't get anybody to come over and eat our food. We moved to East Texas. I have not sold my city house yet. Tomorrow we will take food to some of our friends.

62. My parents got us a high-definition TV
It came at a good time. Our old TV is on its last legs - raster-line rollover, shivering picture, colors are a bit too dark. I would have been fine with a non-HD digital set, but those are getting harder and harder to find, so we might as well take the HD plunge now. It should be fun!
