My Holiday Vacation

Just got back today from Christmas with the in-laws in MS. . . . some of whom are very overtly racist (my father in law who we try hard not to see) and some who are just racist, and some who just don’t have a clue.

I must admit that my brother in law is a decent guy. He is Baptist (its genetic) and he and his wife are on faculty at a Baptist College in TN. He is a Democrat and Obama supporter. My wife’s little sister decided to stay in MS to raise her family. . . . When talk was about Obama being the next President, she said “Not for another month!” read "not for another month THANK GOD!

At some point in the visit my mother in law will ask me to say grace. That’s after she has said it at a meal, and my brother in law has said it at a meal (teaches music at Baptist College) She knows that my wife and I do not believe all that stuff, but she will ask me anyway. I would rather defer to either my brother in law or sister in law who can do a bang up job of "Thank you, Lord"s
and "In Jesus' name."

Anyway, next time she does that I am going to say something like the following

“We are thankful for so many things: … We thank liberals and the Democratic Party that all citizens have the right to vote regardless of race – as long as we keep a close eye on Republicans; We thank the labor movement for the 40 hour work week – except for those across this country who work for employers that regularly flaunt labor laws; We are thankful that we still have a little clean air to breath (cough, cough) and clear water(though it be laden with arsenic, carcinogens, antibiotics, and other drugs) to drink thanks to liberals; And we are thankful that George Bush is now relegated to the dustbin of history.”
