Blockbuster or Netflix? Which is best?
I used to have a Blockbuster subscription. The thing I really liked about it was that you could trade watched movies for free at the local store.

My mom has Netflix now, and likes it because she can get movies that are not available from Blockbuster. But, seems to me you can get more bang for your buck if you can trade in watched movies for free ones at the local store, while the next 3 are being mailed to you.

What say you? Would I really miss out on all that much if I don't go with her Netflix? Are there really that many movies I'd miss if I chose Blockbuster instead?

1. I have Netflix
and I love it. Wouldn't change it to Blockbuster ever. But I just like the idea that I can just use the mail the whole time, not have to drive anywhere.

2. If you're into major releases, go with BB. If you like anything older or obscure, go with Netflix.
I have a wicked documentary habit and BB's selection of them is very limited, so I'll be switching. I had a free trial dealie and while they ship fast their selection isn't that hot. I did get a credit for a free used movie for Christmas from them though, which was cool.

3. And therein lies the dilemma. Mom likes the older obscure ones, and I like the new releases.
Perhaps the solution is for us to get our own separate accounts.

5. I'd try just netflix first.
If you feel the need for an occasional movie to supplement that, I like RedBox for new releases, since an overnight rental is only $1. They do a lot of free rental codes too.

4. Netflix
Cause now they have streaming movies. I don't even get the DVDs in the mail anymore. I just watch them on my puter.

6. I prefer netflix too
just because I like older obscure stuff also...I'm still mad from the big switchover from vhs to dvds...Blockbuster used to be tops in the obscure and little known film department...

but AHa! I see the root of our differences! You like newer stuff, I like older stuff! It's a generational thing!

But really I apologize for acting like a jerk...

7. Hey Tom!
I swear, my mother must have paid everyone in this thread to vote for Netflix. Either that, or I really hate it when she is right.

No worries about "that", I apologize for responding like a jerk ....

9. Actually, my current solution to the DVD rental thing is the Library + Redbox.
Redbox rentals are a buck a night -- can't beat that with a stick -- and library rentals are FREE.

11. Netflix has instant online viewing options
Until about a month ago, their online viewing option didn't work on Macs, but now it does. :-)

Who wants to go to the video store when you can start watching a well-known movie with a few mouse clicks (and it's even better when you have a large external monitor.)
