EVERY FUCKING THING IS ON SALE aside from makeup! I love my make up. Yet, does it go on sale? Oh no!

everything i dont care about is on sale. however the one thing i do care about, NOT on sale.

Bah humbug.

:argh:

4. Many retailers classify it as a necessity item rather than luxury item.
That is, they consider it an item you'd buy at any price so:

1.) They have no motivation to put it on sale, they'd raise the price $10 if they could because most people would still pay it.
2.) Their main motivation is only to beat or meet the price that the other retailer is selling a comprable product for.

It's functionally non-collusionary price-gouging by mutual understanding among retailers. It works in both directions for them.

If one major retailer put quality makeup on sale, you'd see the rest of the industry follow suit in a race to the lowest feasible sale price. That, of course, won't happen until people either stop buying makeup or people start instead buying makeup from retailers who sell lower-quality makeups for a reduced or sale price like CVS or Walgreen's does.

I know this because my stepfather is a grocery manager and the same rules apply to eggs, milk, cheese, meat, prepared food items (i.e. frozen pizzas and TV dinners), bottled water and bread. It's the same reason that once McDonald's implemented a $1 menu, the price of cheeseburgers fell industry-wide to be in-line to that price-point and have stayed there for nearly 15 years even as the cost of every single component of that cheeseburger has increased and the reason that the average price of a cup of coffee in an area increases by ~=$0.50 when a Starbucks is built.

I agree though, it's damned frustrating as it typically means that everybody is selling an item above its actual value in an attempt to set a higher standard price-point for that item.

11. They mask their "sales" with "free with purchase" merchandise.
You've really got to stay on top and only
buy when they're "giving away" stuff you
would normally buy anyway.

12. Do you use the pricey stuff?
I don't think the expensive brands EVER go on sale. My mom's big on Chanel, and I know that's always top dollar.

18. Have you tried Everyday Minerals?
I love them!
The only thing I stick with BE for now is the veil, because it is finely milled and I really like the texture.

17. The only thing I can think of to suggest

...is to check out some of the resellers on eBay. I've bought some name brand things like perfume and skin care products from there, and paid a little over half price. The things I received were new, fresh and sealed and I was very happy with the purchase. Well, I was disappointed one one occasion, but politely complained and the seller replaced the product. Then again, of course, I bought only from sellers who demonstrated a lot of knowledge of the product in the listing, and who had perfect or near-perfect feedback.

Good luck.
