If you want more info on her. Was also in a 90s sitcom with Brooke Shields called Suddenly Susan. Since then she's won at least one Emmy for a reality show based on her life, and is a very successful touring stand-up act.

She's done a number of stand-up specials for Bravo, about 6 I think, since '04. At least one a year. That may be ending if her reality show for Bravo is ending, but I think it she's doing at least one more season.

But some in particular, have the large, avid gay following that truly earns them the title. I think Kathy falls into that category. Judy Garland, Streisand, Cher are other examples of major gay icons.

I'm gay (if that was in question) and gay people I know use that term all the time. I had no idea it'd be taken as offensive at all. Frankly this is a good example of how DU can be a little too PC.

I just don't like any term that objectifies a group like "the blacks" or "the jews" or "the gays". Just doesn't sit well with me.

Maybe a lot of "the gays" on DU are a bit sensitive right now with all the Warren crap going on. Sometimes being PC is just being aware of how things might be interpreted, and being more careful not to offend. I do my best not to use terms that don't offend unless I'm intentionally trying to.

Talk Radio was on at about the same time as the Brooke Shields show, but as funny redheads go, Vicki was funnier and more likeable.

Andy Dick was part of Kathy, Garofalo and Cho's group of friends when they were starting out, along with Ben Stiller. Both Garofalo and Stiller had guest appearances on News Radio.

She's just not that funny. I've heard her on Stern a thousand times and I'm never impressed. Besides being a complete money whore, all she does is talk shit on Hollywood tabloid stars. ZZZzzz. Big fucking deal. Maybe because I'm not that enamored with H-Town to begin with I don't see the genius her comedy is.

Like all comedians though, she's not for everyone.

and pretty fearless. I don't usually like Don Rickles types, but KG also makes fun of herself, which makes her humor a lot more tolerable (to me).

There was a lot to choose from-especially if you had cable (and you do if you were watching CNN). I don't like Larry the cable guy or Dennis Miller, so I don't watch either of them. :shrug:

I can't believe there are so many people who like her. We were wondering how the hell she got a show (renewed!) at all. Just. . . hard to watch and the weird ego mystifies me.

I pretty much skipped the NYE crap on teevee, but as I rolled through the grid 20 times in search of something that didn't suck (when did this become marathon night?), was amazed to see Dick Clark is still listed on ABC's craptacular (please tell me they didn't let him on camera again this year. . . I saw him last year and it was really uncomfortable) and Evel Knievel's son is still doing the same tired schtick (I blame Firesign Theatre for making him funny).

And yes, I was probably most pathetic of all because I ended up watching the final two episodes of a horrible Food Network show instead of reading a book. I at least rationalized it by using it as inspiration to whip up something decent for dinner.

Comedy is a good thing when done properly - has she heard of timing??? kind of a integral component of the DELIVERY! She has had enough time up - let someone else do it next year.

although i didn't watch any new year's eve stuff on the tv...i did hear kathy did something even weirder than usual

did you love how she messed up the countdown? She kept rambling on and on and to put it simply: it was anti-climatic! How stupid! I like some of her work, but this is not her forte. Perhaps it is time to allow a new voice, a change for 09! CNN followup - cuz i will change the channel!!

I am unsure of her connections, but since CNN is now the cult of personality news network, no wonder!
