1. Tell him that salt water will help to keep it clean?
It's just a piercing. When he doesn't want it anymore he can take it out and the hole will close up. Rapidly, since it's near his mouth.

2. Take his picture.
That's what I did every time one of my kids did something like that. I have a hilarious collection of photos of piercings, blue hair, green hair, goth makeup, you-name-it. You will laugh about it one day, trust me.

It's his lip.

3. Point out the obvious.
Getting both holes near one another, either centered or slightly-off-center, looks better than one on each side which makes the owner of the lip look like a trout. It's aesthetically-pleasing...the feng-shui of body modification.

9. I'll give him the info.....
He recently started working at Old Navy in Seattle...
has a new group of buddies who are attempting
a total fashion design makeover on the guy.

It's actually quite fun to see
Mr. "I Don't Give A Shit What I Look Like"...
to take an interest again.

5. Don't worry
All four of my kids at one time or the other had piercings of one type or the other, once it gets inconvenient, they let it go. They kept it if they like the self expression. Eyebrows, lips, tongue, La bret. Belly button, Nose, septum, more private areas. (No I didn't want to know, but she told me anyway)

They ended up with attractive body art, infection free. Recently it's more tattoos and less piercings. They're grown now, and a bit more discreet.

6. oh, let him do it
Yeah, I think it's really stupid, but he's old enough to make a little stupid decision like that. Maybe just make sure he finds a way to pay for it himself and isn't dropping by to tell you that he's thinking about getting it done, if only his dear old mom would give him the money for it.

7. actually.....
the other reason for his visit was to give me his Christmas present...
(the snow prevented him from giving it on Christmas)
and to give me $100 he owes me...

The boy knows that there is no way I would pay for it.

And, thanks for all the comments...
it helps!

12. sounds like a good kid
If he's turned out this well so far, a little bit of metal isn't going to ruin him, that's for sure. Be glad that you've done a good job.

11. Tell him
that piercings are SO declasse now - everybody has them - and if he wants to be REALLY cool and out there, he should get branded.

19. Piercings come out and heal up.
If he needs to do that for a job, I'm sure he can figure it out. He's 19, not 9.

Now go roll your eyes at somebody who can stand you.

25. Just so long as he doesn't pierce his ears with those huge earings. I hate those plus
they disfigure your ears for life. Scars from piercings on the lips will barely be visible when he grows out of it.
