They are OK. But the stuff they stole from is a lot better.

22. I saw Lacuna Coil at OzzFest...
...the year that SOAD headlined. They kicked ass and many of their female fans looked like Hollywood's (and my fantasies') version of sexy witch/vampires. And that was oh so pleasant after just having been stuck in the middle of all those Hatebreed fans...lol.

15. So what if there are Christian references?
The Waterboys, Jason & the Socrchers, U2, and Guadalcanal Diary all had pretty obvious Christian allusions, and it never hurt their college radio cred back in the days of yore.

They're okay, they don't offend my senses, but I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to them. Let's say, that if they came on the radio, I would definitely consider not changing stations.

36. Why is it when some DU members have a difference of taste they're labeled elitist?
And why are we supposed to keep our opinions to ourselves? I wouldn't expect everyone to have kind words about a lot of the stuff I listen to either, but I don't get pissy whenever someone badmouths them.

41. So by calling someone who doesn't like your music an "elitist", you acknowledge that their taste is,
in fact, better than yours, and you acknowledge that you know that they are, in fact, correct in their analysis.

Why does DU have to spew hate. We're supposed to be better than this. But alas, it appears DU isn't. No better than the low priced spread.

And what's your issue all of a sudden?

This thread has bought out as much hate as if I stood up waving a Christian flag and proclaimed you all were going to hell.

47. I never assumed you composed or played it. Forgive me for my lack of clarity
in using the common vernacular of saying "your music" to mean "music which you like".

And what do you mean by "What's your issue all of a sudden"?

I've always exemplified, quite hilariously at times with intense and cleverly worded invective, an issue with all art forms that are mediocre, derivative, uncreative, soulless, empty, lowest-common-denominator, commercial, fake, done only for monetary gain, and awful.

And disagreeing about the validity of someone's musical taste is not "spewing hate". It's holding an opinion.

I do, however, spew hate on the majority of person's seeming addiction to mediocrity and thoughtlessness in art (and anything else).

I can just picture the jammer-wannabe poseurs standing around looking at each other in their emo outfits and faux-goth asshole regalia saying, "Listen to that crunch! We're REALLY REALLY FUCKING SERIOUS! You can tell, because we have CRUNCH!"

Fucking poseurs.

Why do people celebrate and settle for mediocrity at such an alarming rate? Life is too precious to spend it dining it on shit.

48. I can make a career of it only if someone pays me for it. As to my problem, I care about art.
Edited on Mon Jan-05-09 07:38 PM by Rabrrrrrr
I care about art very, very deeply.

It's important to me.

So when uncreative douchebags enter the artworld for the simple reason of reaping a profit off mindless and undiscerning (or, more often, unCARING) people, I get pissed off.

I get pissed off because it takes attention from real artists. I get pissed off because it generates more douchebag poseurs celebrating mediocrity. I get pissed off because it devolves our human collective conscious, and stains us all, and keeps us from evolving into what we could be.

That's worth getting pissed off about, in my opinion.

65. Like 'em
I remember them breaking out with "Bring Me to Life" around the last year or so that I actually made a concerted effort to keep up with "modern rock" and my budding music snob friends bitching about how horrible they were. They seemed to be both damned if they did and damned if they didn't with their semi-alignment with "Christian" rock and they were supposed to be oh-so-derivative... but, hell, I liked that song and both of the follow-up singles that I heard from the album. I like their debut album; I think stuff like "Hello" got overlooked at the expense of some of the "crunchier" tracks.

Beyond the debut, though, I can't say much about them. I think they've done at least one additional studio album (though most of the band beyond Amy Lee has vacated IIRC) and a live album, but all I've heard is "Call Me When You're Sober," with which I wasn't all that impressed. So I can't say I love 'em as I haven't made that much of an effort to keep up with them, but I like Amy Lee's voice and a fair amount of the music I've heard by them.

66. I haven't heard their studio recordings, but I got roped into seeing one of their shows
Unless their live act is pretty different from their albums, they sounded like a bunch of recycled Metallica riffs fronted by a singer that really, really wanted to be Bjork when she grew up.

And I don't particularly like either Metallica or Bjork, so I'm going to go with "dislike."
