this crying kitten is tugging on my cat's maternal instincts
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UMX-btHwYE&feature=related

I put the computer on the floor with the kitten crying and Esther tried tearing my computer apart trying to get to it. then she'd walk around it rubbing against it like it was the kitten. I can only imagine what the little kitten was saying that got my cat in a tizzy, lol.

2. I've played that several times.
I don't know where my cats are. Apparantly neither of them has a maternal bone in their body..

19. I finally played it with Sophie right next to me.
She looked at the computer pretty hard for a minute or two and then decided it was nothing and stopped paying attention....

4. All three of mine got pretty agitated.
They were sleeping peacefully until I played the video, and then they all woke up and came running to the computer.

Other youtube videos of meowing will get a look, but this one had her pawing at the speakers and trying to get through the computer to get to the kitten.

9. One of my old toms was interested
He has a lot of avuncular bones in him -- he really does like little kitties. I fostered a mom and her four kittens from the local shelter. This tom took to grooming the kittens.

10. By big male was interested. Not enough to jump up on the desk but he definitely came into

the room and looked. Now he is licking my chair. That is what he does with kittens. He licks them. (later) I tried it again and this time he jumped up and headed towards the speakers on my desk. Then he mewed back. Now he is looking everywhere. I think he'd like another kitten.

11. My old momma kitty searched the house for about 10 minutes.
Tater (the Just Ain't Right cat) didn't notice at all.

I felt bad for the momma kitty.

13. as a joke, i played that for my kitty too... she freaked out and immediately ran to my speakers...
what is that kitty complaining about?

my dogs went to active too.

my fear is that kitty is sounding the "kill all of the humans" alert.

before i send this along, or play it for my loved ones again, could you confirm that?

20. This is a nursing Kitten's cry to locate its Mother and be returned to secure surroundings
We had a feral cat drop in and have a litter of six. Before they could walk, I would pick one of the kittens up and have a look at him/her and they would make this cry. If I set the kitten down, say, six feet from the "nest," the kitten would continue this cry until Mother walked over, picked him/her up by the scruff of the neck and returned to the "nest." I tried this once with each of the kittens and then didn't do it again. Once the kittens could walk, we could hear this cry occasionally as some of the kittens would get into the bathtub and were unable to climb out.

Naturally, I'll post a photo......

22. huh, maybe that's why my cat tried grabbing for the scruff of my wrist
when i had it over the speaker, she must've thought my hand was the kitten.
