powerpoint conversion programs? anyone?
I need to convert powerpoint to a file format that is playable on a regular home DVD player.

I have created a powerpoint of old family photos - I want to be able to take that convert it into a "video" and save it on a DVD so family members without computers are able to view it on their TV through that DVD player

I would prefer "free" programs

any recomendations?

1. That's a great question.
I however do not know. One of my college friends works for a SE Asian economic policy organization in DC as a digital-media professional and does it every day. I'll ask him what he uses.

Email sent...let's see how long until I get a response.

4. His response:
Check newer versions of WMP; they're pretty funky now with burning things to DVD. Also, is this with Office 2007 or an older version? I could be wrong, but the new office has a sh**storm of features nowadays, and it wouldn't surprise me if this was one of them. I'll investigate further. In the meantime, what version does this user have, and how updated is their WMP?

xp operating system

I can burn to a DVD, but the problem is converting from Powerpoint to an AVI file or similar that can be played on a regular DVD player

Check out PFCMedia and potentially Windows Media Encoder for saving as a video file. The thought being that if you can save your Powerpoint to a video format, you can convert video to DVD fairly easily.

The latter was not known for working in any format other than WMV, but that might have changed. Also, if you're burning to DVD, then it might not matter anyways. Any format would be acceptible for WMP, provided it's not quicktime or real. Regarding the bells and whistles, you'll have to explore the updated version of said program on that particular machine. I know Windows Media Player does a lot of burning these days, including to DVD, but I'm not yet certain about the bells & whistles that accompany. You'll have to explore a little more. I might have some free time today to look into it, but can't make any guarantees.

9. Save your Powere Point slides as JPEGs and then use Windows Movie Maker

10. I have some animation
that needs to be in there too

saving as JPG won't preserve animations, and why bother go through all the trouble of setting up powerpoint and saving as JPG slides - just insert the pics into WMM direct..

these pics cover over 100 years of family, the powerpoint I set up has animation, music for each decade - jpg slide just doesn't cut it
