1. Heh.

4. I dunno, Sayle's humor is quite different than Python...more political at times
there's another Brit "humorist" who fits the bill better for this comparison to work, but I can't think of his name. He's much grosser than Sayle.

Frankly, I've decided that Oasis rips off the Kinks more than they do the Beatles...

5. I like Sayles better than Python.
Edited on Tue Jan-06-09 12:56 PM by Forkboy
The first three series run of Alexei Sayles Stuff is hilarious. His short film, "Didn't You Kill My Brother?" is also flat out great. And of course, on the Young Ones everybody was awesome. While Python was clearly more influential (and their first 2 seasons are just fantastic) a lot of their later seasons were pretty hit and miss.

One of my favorite things to say on DU is a Sayles quote..."It's a funny ole world."

I don't like Oasis or the Beatles, though clearly the Beatles are better.

10. That's a Sayles quote?
It's also a form of an old adage about the beautiful game... and a Thatcher quote... and a WC Fields quote...

14. LOL..The Young Ones is my favorite show of all time.
Edited on Tue Jan-06-09 01:54 PM by Forkboy
They crammed more funny stuff into just 12 episodes than most sitcoms achieve in 5 seasons.

When they wrote the scripts they just left a few minutes blank so Sayle could just do what he wanted instead of playing the same character (though everyone he plays is a member of the Balowski Family).

"This is the band Radical Posture, and my name is Alexei Yuri Gagarin Siege of Stalingrad Glorious Five-Year Plan Sputnik Pravda Moscow Dynamo Back Four Balowski. Me Dad was a bit of a Communist, know what I mean?"

It's been a terrible blow to my life looking like Mussolini

Maybe a member of the Balowski family made chief of police. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. ;)

Seriously, I ought to beat the shit out of you for that one. Besides, I've always known better than to bash Al Sharpton in a thread Skinner starts with the explicit premise of saying only positive things about the person (i.e Daily Democrat threads)

Comparing The Beatles to any band is always like apples and oranges
Same with Python

Tho I did love the Young Ones, it wasn't Python
