Wild Boar Rams Through Apartment Door

BERLIN (Reuters) - A German hunter stabbed a wild boar to death in a stairwell after the beast rammed through the bolted front door of an apartment building and stormed up to the sixth floor, a Berlin newspaper reported Tuesday.

The beast from the local forest sped past a group of children playing outside and into the building in a Berlin suburb, probably in search of food. Petrified neighbors peered through their spy holes fearing their doors would not hold -- and called 36-year-old hunter Conrad Meyer.

"I grabbed him around the neck and then stabbed him square in the heart with my hunting knife," Meyer told the BZ daily newspaper, which showed him in traditional green hunter's hat and camouflage kit dragging the carcass away.

Wild boar often cause havoc in Berlin. Last April one jumped into bed with an elderly couple and in January a man was hospitalized by a boar when it crashed into his living room.

A beautiful June day in Germany. A yound PFC just arrived from basic is on his first mission. He has to go to the bathroom so off he trapses into his first foray into the European forests. Finding a woonderful circle of tall fir trees he lowers the bottom half of his BDU's and feels the warm summer sun shining on him.

*snort**snort**snort* he hears from just outside of the tree line...but in which direction did it come from?!??!?!

He decides not to wait to find out.

made it back to his tank with the beast about 10 yards behind him. the other young GI's thought THAT was HYSTERICAL!

THIS young GI however, did not

Not me but one of the other guys on my track then. We were going 1 on 3 off and we had the land line set up and a radio and for some reason a AT-4 (?) tank missile simulator. One guy went out to relieve another and when he got to the LP no one was there. He called out for his fellow soldier and put on the night vision goggles, when they came on at his feet was a boar a biggee too. He instinctually tried to climb the tree just beside him only to be met with the boot of the guy he was supposed to relieve, "THIS IS MY TREE! GET YOUR OWN!!!".

We doubled up with two on at a time. Me and the Pvt. and the NCO left in the track were laughing our a**es off at them....until WE had to go out there. One of us scanned for the boar the other stood with the missile simulator turned around backwards so the backblast flame was our weapon. We didn't say much the whole two hours.
