* The Jeffersons
* Sanford & Son: The Motion Picture
* The Bugaloos
* My Mother, the Car

See hollywood? I did for free what a lot of nincompoops get paid tens of thousands to think up! Trouble is, I can think of better, that's original, and will net you more than just the embarrassment you're currently getting.

61. Yes, but they will eventually do all of them, won't they?
Give them through 2050, I think they will have covered them all. (That may be a conservative estimate as to how long it will take.)

8. The StarLost
This was the 1973-74 tv series created and written by Harlan Ellison. It ran for only 16 episodes and got cancelled. Keir Dullea (of 2001: a Space Odyssey) was the main character.

The story took place far into the future. When Earth became unliveable, its inhabitants left it and embarked on a great journey through space in a vessel supposedly 8,000 miles long (a big mother of a ship). Inside the ship were dozens of completely isolated self-contained biospheres, each the size of a small nation, that were home to many different cultures from Earth. Those cultures had changed since they were originally found on Earth and had evolved. However, the people only knew their own gigantic biosphere and didn't know they were on a space ship. Keir Dullea came from an Amish biosphere of an agricultural society and managed to find a way out of it, into the service corridors of the gigantic vessel. Once there, he found two other companions and they uncovered the terrible fate of the ship: it was on a collision course with a star. I liked the idea of Native American biospheres, Amish biospheres, etc. and the fact that the hero and his companions had to journey through these places to enlist support for their mission: to find the control center and the means to change the ship's course.

Unfortunately, Ellison got angry with the producers because they kept changing his vision and the series finally disappeared from the air. It had some interesting special effects, if anyone saw and remembers that TV show.

24. It's one of these scripts that has a chance of making it big
But that has gotten shelved and set aside so many times not many producers or directors want to be involved. Too bad - the original Logan's Run story was good and the first movie while full of flaws was a big hit. (My favorite scene is Peter Ustinov with the cats.) I hope the new version gets made. I say "new version" since it sounds as if it will be more like the original story than the first movie.

27. Another vote for Have Gun-Will Travel.
Paladin was on in the wrong decade anyway. The gunslinger who hated guns and only used it as a last resort (of course he had to resort to it in every episode). He was a West Pointer who quoted Shakespeare and Lord Byron with ease. A gourmet chef and wine expert who could live in the wild on roots and berries. What a man!

1994, starring David Johansen and John C. McGinley.

Currently it is considered the 49th worst film of all time on imdb. For once, imdb may be accurate in their rating.

But who could play Jessica? Or Jody? Or Burt? Casting was what made that show - and would be essential to do right for a remake or movie.

56. I know it's fun, easy, and fashionable to bash hollywood for remaking TV shows, but
sometimes they do a good job. The recent remake of Get Smart wasn't bad. The two Brady Bunch movies are absolute classics. The Fugitive and Maverick in the early 90s were both good. Even back in the 80s you had The Untouchables and The Naked Gun.

Remakes and adaptations have been a part of film-making from the earliest days of Hollywood. Hell, the very first Hollywood feature film, The Squaw Man, which was filmed in 1914, was remade in 1918 and then again in 1931. So remakes are nothing new--they just give people a reason to continue the age-old complaint that Hollywood has "run out of ideas." It's also odd how people take remakes (of both films and TV shows) so personally, as if, say, the new version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is somehow a personal assault on their childhood memories of watching Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka.

Like movies adapted from other sources (books, plays, history, etc.), movies based on TV shows can be good or bad, depending on how they're handled.
