I'm sorry, but Stephen Stills was my favorite
Edited on Thu Jan-08-09 06:03 PM by Taverner
Out of the CSN&Y gamut.

He made music I loved.

He was a flawed individual, like myself

And he seemed to hit similar points in his life as I did...

Oh, can I add that I loved both of his Manassas albums, as well as his solo work

2. Did he die or something?
Your OP makes it seem like he has passed away, but I haven't heard that...

He is still making music, isn't he?

7. I know someone who works for Graham Nash's publicist.
First time she met Stephen Stills he pretty much screamed at her. She was taken aback by the screaming, but carried on with her work. Later someone told her that Stephen Stills is nearly completely deaf, so he screams at everyone.

8. I heard the same about Pete Townsend
He screams everything - not because he wants to but he's deaf

And he would say "I'M BLOODY DEAF! THAT'S WHY I'M TALKING SO LOUD! HOPE YOU DON'T MIND!!!"

12. He's one of my favorites as well.
Second to Neil, though. I saw a story on guitar makers a few years ago - I think Martins, maybe Gibson, though. Anyways, they were introducing a Stephen Stills edition as an annual tribute series that they do. Stills was interviewed and said he has a congenital hearing condition. He still plays, by feeling the vibration of the guitar. Cool! Carry on Stephen!

10. Unfortunately, he is also the favorite of Mellisa Ethridge
Which makes David Crosby really sad.

11. Nothing to be sorry about there
In my opinion, his were the best of their songs - songs with depth and passion. And I love his distinctive voice. Yeah, Stephen Stills is great.

13. Here's a CD you need if you don't own it already:

...an excellent, essential "back to basics" album released in 1991 after one too many attempts to make CSN (and Stills himself) into "pop merchants."

The primary draw here is a killer version of "Treetop Flyer," a song that goes W-A-Y back into his career and concerts. It also showed up on "Just Roll Tape," the 1968 demo reel he released last year, but get "Stills Alone" first.

:toast:
