So, in a dilemma - I want to watch DVDs in my office. I have an old TV.

Already in my possession is an old TV - maybe ten years or so. Works perfectly well with a DVD player, but the channel selector thing is all fucked up and the remote is long gone. It really is only good for a monitor, and the few channels that it will actually land on (something like 2, 3, 28, 43, 62, 78, and 91 - totally random set of channels, and i can't figure out how to change it, and don't want to bother anyway, because I have no intention of ever hooking it up to cable). The thing is a 19", I think, and being older, it's large and bulky.

So, here is the question:

Do I bring the old TV into my office, which will require the purchase of a new DVD player and cables.

or

Do I give the TV away on freecycle, and spend more money getting a portable DVD player to just have sitting on the desk.



The first option gives me a bigger screen, probably better sound, and is cheaper. But it takes up more room, and I'm sure would use much more electricity than the second option.

The second option offers less energy use, gives me a portable DVD player (which I really don't have any real use for), and takes less real estate in the office - but has a higher upfront cost and a smaller screen, and is a piece of equipment more likely prone to failure than either the TV or the DVD player, necessitating a much higher replacement cost.


I'm not sure what to do.

then you can do more than play dvds. or get a cable to run from your computer to your current tv.

Plust you can take it anywhere. So you can watch movies in bed (if you don't have a TV in your bedroom). I would get rid of the old beast and buy a portable DVD player.
