The Towering Inferno
They seem so happy. This must be before Robert Wagner started kicking people out of the rescue gurney.

1. Who would have thought OJ would go on to become a notorious criminal?

2. I did
Right after he killed his wife and her waiter friend, I decided that guy was just up to no good at all.

3. "The Towering Inferno." Amazing, fantastic....

One of my "collectibles" is the original program from that movie.

That was one of the first PG rated movies my parents took me to or allowed me to see.

I remember bragging that I had seen it fourteen times (which was true).

4. At the time, fourteen million was a HUGE amount to spend to make a movie.
So much so, that two studios had to join forces to make it.

Now that is a pittance.

6. That won't even pay for the lead in most movies.
Although I guess if you account for inflation it does.

7. I remember it too. The story behind the "two studios" moniker was...
Actually they were making two separate movies: one was based on the novel The Tower and another was just a straight up action movie to be called "The Inferno." Rather than compete for the limited audience demand for movies about burning buildings, they joined casts & efforts, producing one of the first blockbuster movies (several years before Star Wars was credited with inventing the summer blockbuster).

Towering Inferno only got that PG rating because of a risque scene in which Paul Newman only wore a hand towel.
