I've known for some time that Garth Brooks is "one of us"
And the Dixie Chicks are with us

Who else (other than Willie Nelson) is among us in the country world?

2. I Thought Garth
was a republican. He was wasn't he ? I can't stand him in those tight jeans and he is so full of it. I put him in the same pocket as Celine-No ?

3. Well, I may not like his music
But he's a Dem

Not only that, his sister (who is openly lesbian) is also a member of the band

Personally, I think he took a few Eagles records and said "this would work in C&W" and there you have Garth

9. Garth Brooks campaigned for Democrats in his native Oklahoma back in 1994
in a year and a place when it was not easy to be a Democrat.

Well, she's more folk-rock than country, but she's still pretty awesome. And flamingly liberal. :)

There is nothing in her music that would lead me to any conclusion other than that she's a lefty. :)

He really is more of a democratic socialist, in the true sense of the word, not the Sarah Palin version.

check out who is in the video at 2:07.

and at 1:50 when he says, "when we're free to love anyone we choose..."

and the images with it.

doesn't sound or look too Republican to me. :grouphug:

I have enormous respect for Raul Malo. I had the privilege of interviewing him before a show in 1994, and he's a really genuine kind of guy.

22. I'd love to see him perform
He played an outdoor show a couple of summers ago in Newburyport, Mass, and I didn't find out about it until the last minute. It was part of some dort of harbor front festival, and they really didn't promote his appearance.

24. I've never seen him perform solo, but I saw the Mavericks together
when the band was Raul, Robert Reynolds, Nick Kane and Paul Deakin. I take full credit for their having been hired to perform that particular show; our radio station sponsored it, and I persuaded our promotions director to hire The Mavericks over the few other acts he had on his short list.

Folk-Country, to be completely accurate.

I think she once said that she was too "granola" for the country crowd, and too "country" for the folk crowd.

of the conservative nature of the country music establishment. So he became a big star while subtlety showing signs with songs like "We Shall Be Free." I love his music.

Others on our side, besides the Dixie Chicks:

Mary Chapin Carpenter
Pam Tillis
Matraca Berg
Rodney Crowell
Emmylou Harris
Nanci Griffith
Faith Hill
Kathy Mattea
Tim McGraw
Maura O'Connell
Willie Nelson
Trisha Yearwood
Kris Kristofferson
Marcus Hummon
Raul Malo
Allison Moorer
Steve Earle
Rosanne Cash
Todd Snider
Adrienne Young
Alison Krauss? (while researching, I saw she donated to People For The American Way)
Toby Keith supported Obama
Sugarland performed at the DNC? http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080906213148AARf54T

I tend to like the women more among the newest country stars. Here's what I've found out about those I like:

Carrie Underwood - not political
Taylor Swift - not sure, but not hopeless - was undecided until the last minute in the election. She did not say who she voted for.
Miranda Lambert - Repuke, unfortunately
Katie Armiger - not sure
