1. Cool shot.
my 6th grader daughter is going there for a week-long science camp next month. They're pretty excited.

It's gonna be freezing, but beautiful!

2. I've never been there in the winter, but from pictures I've seen
I think it's the most beautiful time of the year there. She's very lucky to get to go there. It certainly will be COLD - hope she's well-prepared for that. You can check on current conditions at:

3. Thanks for the links.
Here's the link for the Yosemite Institute, which is the outfit that organizes these school trips. It's pretty cool-looking. They're staying at a camp called Boystown, north of Curry Village.

My oldest, a freshmen in high school, is jealous of his younger sister b/c they didn't offer this trip back when he was in middle school, so he never got to go!

We're lucky. Yosemite is only about 4 hrs from where we live.

4. Yes you are very lucky.
Yosemite is 400 miles from where I live so it's 1 or 2 days driving. My neighbors are also lucky, in the summer of 2007 they got to go on one of those guided hiking trips for 7 days with a ranger, from hut to hut so all they had to carry were their clothes. They documented it extensively on their web site:

8. Yes it is
Not mine obviously. The Yosemite Association has several webcams. I wish they would point one of them towards Yosemite Falls. It's currently 41 degrees there - cold, yes, but not below freezing. The valley floor is only 4000 feet in elevation.
