I have a migraine. One of the worst I've had in awhile
I woke up at 12:30AM with this headache. I took an Imitrex and applied an ice pack to the back of my head. Woke up again at 1:01AM and got sick. Went back to bed with and applied said ice pack. Woke up again at 2:15AM got sick again. Repeat. Woke up again at 3:30AM and got sick again, but didn't have anything to give so it was the dry heaves.

The reason I am detailing all of this is NOT for medical advice but just to ask a question.

I went through a period where I wasn't getting these headaches as often (they tend to coincide with my menstrual cycle as did this one). Since my scooter accident I've been getting them more often and in greater severity.

I have an appointment with my primary care doctor tomorrow afternoon and will ask him this question: Could something like the trauma of an accident followed by surgery three weeks later be causing my more severe migraines? I'm thinking of asking for a CAT scan of my head to make sure I don't have an undiagnosed head injury.

What thinketh the lounge? Am I being a hypochondriac?

Those of you who get migraines, following a trauma like an accident or surgery, did your headaches increase in number or severity?

1. Kicking my own thread, hoping the night
crew has some anecdotal advice.

2. Maybe a visit to a neurologist would be in order?
I had some kind of brain scan a long time ago. Don't know what it was called -- I just remember seeing all kinds of psychedelic lights and hearing lots of banging noises. It ruled out injury, but didn't help the migraines.

Your migraine seems really severe, with all the nausea. I don't think you are being a hypochodriac at all. Your injury could be a factor. Why not have some diagnostics to rule out any complications.

Good luck.

4. Sounds like you had an MRI
I had one of my shoulder and there was a lot of clanging noise.

3. Sorry to hear about your head troubles...migraines suck!
I worked 25 years as an ophthalmology assistant and also suffer from the same type of migraines you describe.

I think the CAT is a good idea. I don't remember reading about your scooter accident, but if your required surgery because of it, then yes, you might have suffered a head injury...nerve damage that you weren't aware of at the time of the accident. This could be one explanation of the increase severity and frequency of your migraines. Better safe now than sorry later.

I also get "Classic" migraines, although I have only had a few in my lifetime. These are the type that cause visual disturbances and even though I know what it is when it starts, it still always freaks me out. I don't get a headache with them but have the pulsating blind spot that grows in size over a 30 minute period.

I am sure everything is alright, but I will keep you in my thoughts!

5. Thanks. I had a complete tear of the
rotator cuff of my left shoulder. I had surgery on 11/11/08 to repair it.

My beloved scooter's back tire hit some gravel and down we went.

6. I often get frequent migraines, so I can definitely empathise.

But I don't know if they could be related to your accident.

My only advice is to get to a very good neurologist. :(

I hope they pass and don't come back.

7. Saw my PCP today and he put me on
some blood pressure medicine that is supposed to decrease the number and severity of migraines. We'll see. I'm supposed to keep a headache diary.

He said that if my headaches were accident related (i.e. if I had a subdural hematoma) I'd be getting them more frequently and they would get worse. With the symptoms I had it was a migraine.
