2. You know a place where I can buy MS word for mac and DL it?
I think I could DL if it were the PC version, but I've had no luck with finding the mac one to DL. The inexpensive Pages program is behaving a bit to clumsily for me to use in an environment where I can't regularly use a normal PC. The organization I now work at uses Linux and Pages to doc to open office combined with A4 vs 8.5X11 issues is just too much for me to handle. I need to be able to know that when I send out a doc file it will not be buggy when it goes to Europe or the US.

6. That's an update patch. I need the program. When I clicked buy here, I was sent to a page
that touts its free shipping. You know of any online software stores that do downloading of the basic program?

I know Jobs can be a douchebag, but even he's not that big of one.

4. but Macs are never buggy!

I love OO by the way, but I always have to save files to PC-type crap since the folks I deal with don't get the whole Mac OO, thing.

Sorry to not be of any help! :hi:

5. It's not so much the mac that 's a problem.
It's just that the mac came with a functional, but not out of this world word processor with the ability to export its files as .doc files. Although sometimes this exported version loses some of it's formatting, for example footnotes can often be transformed to some kind of poorly aligned joke or italics/underlining might not be preserved. Normally this was no problem. I would just send the work to my office PC and fix anything that had gone out of line. Sometimes there is no problem, but I don't like to send a doc out without checking it on a PC to be sure that everything has gone through right. I don't have access to an office PC anymore, I have a collection of shitbox Linux computers (these things are poorly neglected and not updated frequently). Once a week I can get to a PC for a while, but that's actually at a time I'm supposed to be working, and even then it isn't a well maintained PC. Add to the complexity that MSword seems to be going through a generational file change and last time I tried to use the OO it generated a doc file that my word processor couldn't import, I have better things to do than fuck around with this. I'm ready to bite the bullet and get the Word.

... I'll help a bit...

Staying legal, Microsoft don't make available a trial-ware version of Office as they do for the PC people. I've looked and looked but nothing legal I'm afraid. Which is crazy, because guess what? People can burn their own disks, and if you make it downloadable you save money (no packaging, shipping etc) and you can increase your profit margin plus if you release Office 2009 say... it can hit the download before it hits the store.

BT = bit torrent. BT has legal and illegal uses, and to say, go to a popular torrent tracking site like The Pirate Bay and get the torrent link from there and download it... that would be illegal, well definitely illegal in US and UK. However MS Office for Mac 2008 is available on the torrents.

Mind you if you can get out to a Best Buy, they should stock MS Office for Mac and I think they're open until 9pm in most places. You can probably drive there, get it and come back quicker than it takes to download even a quarter of that illegal torrent. Even if you lived in Ocracoke, NC.

Alternatives? Office Live? They have a cut-down MS Word that works through the browser... but if you're having complex stuff that OOo isn't handling then yep, you need the full program.

Best of luck, sorry I can't provide a legal download link.

Mark.
