I was summer ranch help at a friend's ranch.

Nothing like having your arm, up to the shoulder, up a cow's vagina trying to grab hold of a calf that doesn't know which way is out...

72. In his classic essay "Self Reliance," Ralph Waldo Emerson said...
..."My giant goes with me wherever I go"...

He was basically saying the same thing. It's not the people who change from town to town. It's our attitude as we travel. We go looking for good people and we find them. We go looking for assholes and we're never disappointed.

:toast:

The actual quote and link to the essay:

Travelling is a fool's paradise. Our first journeys discover to us the indifference of places. At home I dream that at Naples, at Rome, I can be intoxicated with beauty and lose my sadness. I pack my trunk, embrace my friends, embark on the sea and at last wake up in Naples, and there beside me is the stern fact, the sad self, unrelenting, identical, that I fled from. I seek the Vatican and the palaces. I affect to be intoxicated with sights and suggestions, but I am not intoxicated. My giant goes with me wherever I go.
