in the Red Rock country between Albuquerque and Flagstaff ( OK, a lot closer to Albq) in about 1987. We were based out of Albuquerque but played one week out of every month in Grants. Very hip bunch of musicians, and once the crowd got drunk (wasn't that much else to do in Grants), we could get away with playing damn near anything we wanted. The bass player brought in Guitar Town and something ( can't remember what) by Lyle Lovett before hardly anyone here ( including me) had heard of them . And I was able to bring in stuff by The Blasters, Los Lobos and Bruce Springsteen among others ( I used to introduce My Hometown as a "two-step by Hank Springsteen Jr.")A fun gig while it lasted; and a nice mix of people coming to see us, about equal parts Anglo, Hispanic and Native American ( a bunch of guys from the Indian rodeo circuit were regulars....) and REAL friendly waitresses.... Thanks for posting this and jogging loose some good memories at 3:40 AM ( insomnia; waiting for the clonazapam to kick in ). Sorry for rambling a little too, I know its just a post a song thread, but this one just got me to reminiscing....

Just got checked in and was about ready to go to my room when this guy staggers in and says to the guy behind the counter, "Y'know any bars around here that don't discriminate against Texans?"

Guy behind the counter says, "You could try the ****(don't remember the name)down the street."

The guy replies,"Nah,I just got thrown out of there."

I laughed my ass off about that. Maybe you were playing there when this guy got tossed.

Saw some awfully drunk people in there (and some pretty stoned musicians) but don't remember anyone ever kicked out when we were playing. Funny story though.
