At University of Maryland we teased a TA from Boston UNMERCIFULLY about his accent..But he had a good sense of humor..:)

I love my home, love new england....I could never live anywhere else.

Boston -- fond memories. Good city. Love the Italian section.

The shore -- Gloucester, etc. Very nice. (I've never been to the Cape but have always wanted to go.)

The little New England towns -- like something out of a storybook.

The cranberry bogs in October are amazing.

Massachusetts -- one of the most liberal, enlightened states we have. Colleges and universities up the wazoo. Love it.

I have nothing but positive feelings towards the whole state.

I love my hometown.

My daughter moved up there a couple months ago (who meets the love of their life on WoW, fer crissakes?) and has been miserable. The whole "winter" thing was cool for about 30 minutes (she'd never seen snow or hills before) and she's hardly left the house since, poor thing. I keep telling my little Floridian that spring will eventually come and make her realize winter was worth it, but she's not buying it and is working hard to convince her sweetie to move southward. Of course, he's making $17/hr and we have unemployment over 10% right now, with college graduates fighting for minimum wage jobs at half that rate. Much as it pains me to have my baby 1500 miles away, I think she needs to suck it up and stay put.

Anything to help me inspire her to tough it out? The accent doesn't do it for her at all (mkay, retahhded and pahstar are fun) and she doesn't do sports. She's in the Worcester area, if that helps.

It's so soulless, imho. Can she get to the Boston area now and then? Or Western MA?

Trust me, once Spring comes, this state comes to life. It's beautiful April-October here. Winter is soon forgotten once the warm weather comes. :)

We tolerate the winters in exchange for 3 other glorious seasons. :)

You people aren't helping at all. ;) I don't think she's a big city kind of girl, though she was sick to death of having nothing to do here. We can't even find Chinese take-out on a holiday because everything shuts down once the old farts are tucked in after 8 or 9. . . She's not in Worcester specifically; just looked to me to be the nearest major town. I thought the photos from her BF looked promising (very lush and woodsy), but it sounds like the romance is the main thing sustaining her.

I just need to figure out where *I* belong (I don't think I could do real winters, either, though I grew up in the tundra of the Midwest) and maybe we can meet halfway. Problem for me is that every state with decent weather seems to involve inbred rednecks, bad accents, and a state income tax (nope, FL doesn't have one).

Winter sucks though. x(

when I do get a chance to visit, I know a few cool people in the Boston area to visit. :D

I love that state.

I was born and raised in a small Massachusetts town, moving to California a couple of weeks before my 16th birthday.

October was beautiful...crisp air, but warm enough for comfort. Colors that photographs and paintings just can't capture as well as the human eye.

If Massachusetts could somehow manage twelve months of October, I'd spend the rest of my life there.

As it stands, I couldn't handle the snow and cold of Winter, or the humidity and mosquitoes of Summer. If I ever get "filthy rich" I'll buy a "vacation home" in Massachusetts and spend every October for the rest of my life there.

Waldon Pond in the afternoon, at the far side where one encounters the most scholarly and enlighten people outside of the West Coast is well worth the visit. An afternoon spent sitting on the rocks listening to people exchanging ideas is, well, cool.

They were incredibly good hosts to me when I was there (Matt's drunken attempt at carbonara notwithstanding.)

There are lots of really, REALLY good people in MA. I wish I could see all of them more often.
