5. It's Latin for "Beyond The Forest" which is a disarmingly beautiful name for a place
with such a reputation for horror.

And of course, it's is a beautiful place, too, and not just the name. I'd love to visit there. Transylvanians are cool. There's something to be said for a people who consider Vlad Tepes - Dracula a folk hero.

8. It's where my best friend's husband it from
Cold.
Snowy.
Poor.
The food is crap (their main food groups are Meat, Cheese, and Cornmeal). Okay, mamaliga (polenta) is okay, but most of the food is pretty awful, even though Romanians love it.

But they are good people.

And they frequently are fluent in several languages - we used to hire Romanians because it was easier than having separate French, Spanish and Italian interviewers.

My friend's father-in-law came to visit from Translyvania, where he was a farmer, and was astounded by US food (he LOVED oranges), the landscape, and the concept of keeping cats indoors. Went home and brought one of the barn kittens inside (much to his wife's dismay) and made a pet of it, because he so enjoyed hanging out with my friend's cat when he was visiting the States.
