Is today a Rebel holiday??
There are 3 new rebel flags flying in our neighborhood today.. It's a first.. We have had the USA flag off and on since 9/11 but these took me by surprise.. At 3 different houses..

3. not that ah know of
There is no major Confederate anniversary during this part of August. I even looked here: http://www.geocities.com/genebrooks/wbts-calendar.html

What ah think it's got to do with, is something, ah, local, with California politics. What exactly, ah do not know.

Ah wouldn't just assume it was freepers, automatically. It could be local folks angry at the power of Hollywood and against Arnold S. On the other hand, it could indeed be against Grey Davis.

Don't make assumptions, but it's obvious someone's not too happy with something.

Rebel flag - t'isn't indigeneous to California. Arizona was the furthest state out west t'side with the Confederacy....

5. It's the anniversary of MO joining the Union as a slave state
Edited on Sun Aug-10-03 10:33 PM by undisclosedlocation
but it's a nasty wrench to the arm of coincidence that you would have 3 Missourians on your block all of whom felt the need to honor their state by trumpeting its slave-owning past. And since MO never seceded, celebrating same with rebel flags would be pretty weird as well.

6. PS There's a big re-enactment at Gettysburg this weekend
even though the actual battle apparently happened in early July. Maybe these people are hard-core re-enactors; a lot of otherwise normal people get bitten by the bug.
