140/90! I can't believe how high that is! Especially since I've been running a few times a week, on average since August. I know that school has been stressful... but my blood pressure has regularly been in the 120's up until now. What gives?

6. Actually that's a possibility...
We've been eating out quite a bit for the last several months. Although I eat mostly vegetarian foods, the food in restaurants is loaded with oils. That would also explain my 10 lb. weight gain over the last year. Eeek!

18. It's not oil. It's salt.
Eating out too much will wreck your health, vegetarian or not. Wonder what your cholesterol looks like.

23. But a totally salt-free diet messes with the
electrolyte balance. Sea Salt is best.

It's so frustrating when you try to improve your health through exercise and your numbers just don't cooperate. x(

4. could indeed be stress
or it could be an early indicator of some developing problem. Something to keep tabs on. I would get a cuff for home to monitor it.

9. I haven't been sleeping well lately, so I wonder if that's an issue.
The doc gave me a specialist to check in which who will look at my arteries and see if they're starting to form a lining. BTW: I'm only 33.

15. I had my sleep study when I was 30.
And only 10 pounds or so overweight. My anatomy was built for apnea. I, a 30-year-old woman, was in the sleep study with all these overweight men over 50. Hee!

10. Didn't even see your post til now; I was at the doctor this AM myself...
I concur with others; I bet it's stress. Going back to school myself, mine will soon be as high as yours too.

That'll get the blood pressure up there. My blood pressure was 147/85 the last time it was checked before I quit smoking. Shortly after I quit it was checked again and was 108/65.

Your BP was 108/65? That's great! That's almost athletic.

12. I'm going to the doc tomorrow, I know mines been high
I'll probably have to wait until next week to see the nephrologist about meds, but I know he's going to flip when he sees my numbers. I bike a lot and have a resting heart rate of 50-55 but my BP is over 140 lately

14. It's not uncommon to have a higher BP reading during a visit to the doctor.
What's important is the average BP taken over several readings. If you are monitoring your own BP at home and it runs significantly lower, you should discuss this and the "office visit spike" with your physician.

24. It's probably stress and diet and electrolyte balance.
Easily corrected by eating bananas and celery everyday. Try that before resorting to a lifetime of BP meds! Because they'll insist!
