Need some help/suggestions please
What's the best way to search for some info from the mid/late 80's that was reported in the local (it's a larger city) papers, but not national news? It was something of a scandal at the time in that city, but just sort of 'fell down the memory hole'. A friend just reminded me of something that was news when we both lived in that city. It has implications to 'current day' and I just want to have a source before I post it.

Nexus? (How far back does Nexus go? I haven't had that available to me in some years and don't remember anymore). Local library? Mine is definately a 'better' one, but I'm not sure if they have papers from other cities (and if they had them, would they go back that far).

I hope this request makes sense and I would appreciate any good suggestions. Thanks in advance.

1. Bigger libraries and large univeristy libraries would have
papers like the New York Times on Microfilm. They have them going back decades. Or at least they used to.

3. I was exonerated at the trial
Let it go!

:-)

Since it was a local phenomena, your local library is an excellent first start. You never know, there might even be some locally printed books or monographs, or even article and story collections, written at the time that the library has. And perhaps the librarian remembers the incidents/time and can help you out as well.

Google rocks, but there are some things in which it's worth going and asking your local professional for their help as well.

4. I don't live in the 'pertinent' city anymore
in fact, I am far from it. I suppose that I could call the reference desk at the library in that city, but ehm, they are 'proud' of that particular citizen now, and perhaps they might not be too happy with me bringing up this tainted nugget. I don't know how far I'd get.

I think Nexus might be the best/easiest bet, if it goes back that far....does anyone know?

5. You do have some difficulties, then
:-)

I don't know how far back lexis/nexus goes. I've never used for anything more than maybe two years old in the few times I've used it.

6. Libraries (and librarians) really rock!!!
I just called my local library and they have what I want on microfiche (sp?)....so I know what I will be doing this weekend!
I will definately share whatever I find that's interesting.

(I suppose I should have called the library first, before I asked the question of you all here - thanks for your input though)
