8. If Martha gives to Democrats
Why doesn't she show up on www.opensecrets.org?

Unless she gives less than $200 at a time?

18. opensecrets.org
Is supposed to show the records of everyone who gives political money -- to candidates or organizations like Emily's list. If Martha supports Democrats, her name should be on the list, unless she's using a pseudonym.

20. She shows up when I check
Total Donated - $163,766

All money has gone to Democrats

Go to Advanced Search, type in "Stewart, Martha" and select 2004,2002,2000 cycle

21. Hmmm ... now it works for me
The 2000, 2002, 2004 number is a little lower than the $163K number which included a couple other people named Martha Stewart (one of whom gave to Republicans!!)

5. No, but make her live in low-income housing
And have to decorate and dress completely from K-Mart. On 10k or less per year.

Top Ramen ala Martha . . .

6. Her next book will be called "Bulk Cooking:
Edited on Fri Mar-05-04 09:43 PM by Ilsa
How to get the most out of that 55 gallon stew pot."

Followed by "How to Sleep Comfortably With $5 Bed Linens"

Hmmm. She always wears those understated colors. I suspect she isn't going to be very happy in bright vermillion.

She'll do time in the hole for stealing orange peel for potpourri for her cell.

I almost feel sorry for her. So bright, so hard working. And she blew it because her ego demanded she insist so hard on her innocence when she should have sat quietly by and let the attorneys work it out.

10. Thank you
Honest to God, I was beginning to think I was the only one who felt that way.
You know, Martha used to be a stockbroker, and my guess is that she screwed someone years ago, and its coming home to roost, and thats the real reason for the witch hunt.
Additionally, I dont think Martha should do one minute behind bars, but especially NOT while Ken Lay walks free.

Yeah, they're sending a message, alright.

I swear, every time the subject comes up you can just see that sickly light of righteous indignation in the eyes of the wingnuts. Im surrounded by them.
Of course, mention Ken Lay, and you're just a whining liberal tree hugger. :eyes:

19. Same here
I think she should pay a big-assed fine but the way Bill Mahr put it the other night on Larry King's show was correct.

He said Martha is being prosecuted for shoplifing a pack of gum out the front door while Ken Lay and his frinds are moving big-screen tvs out the back.

There has to be some sense of proportion here.

15. I don't think it matters which party she donates to...
She's just another rich a**hole who played the odds and lost. These people think the Rule of Law doesn't apply to them. The obscenity isn't that Stewart might go to jail; it's that Ken Lay won't. I say, lock them ALL up.

24. Martha Lied, Nobody Died
...or lost their jobs or entire retirement savings. Give her a pimple on her tongue. Give people like Kenny-Boy an extended engagement as Big Bubba's same-sex wife in cellblock D (if they're guilty). Proportionality, it's all about proportionality.

That's the stock market. Gotta play fair. Martha didn't. She should have lost like everybody else did with those stocks. She cheated. She's a repuke at heart. Do as I say but not as I do.

May as well go into a liquor store with a gun and demand they take all the money out of the register.

And then see if the myth about men dropping the proverbial soap still holds true... :scared:

Is this an outrageous post? You betcha. It's hardly worse than the death penalty.

I think sending her to prison will do the hurt to the stockholders. Let her pay a fine and have creative community service.

I normally feel bad for most people convicted of crimes. But there is something about arrogant, rich women; especially Stewart. I hope she rots in jail.

The appeals process has not yet begun.

She may pay a fine and/or do community service. Don't hold your breath waiting for her to go to jail.

30. Oh good grief! No she shouldn't get the death penalty!
But I'm not anxious to let her off the hook either just because she's a Democrat. She did go to a lot of trouble to lie to the feds and cover her behind even though she wasn't ultimately charged with that crime. Actually I think she did benefit from indider information and it wasn't a victimless crime either, but that's besides the point.

I don't think she should do hard time, but yes she should do some, not a lot.

32. Oh, God, NO. What a ridiculous idea.
The death penalty is WRONG under any circumstances. And especially relating to idiotic ideas like this.

Martha will serve time in jail. Enough is enough.

We should be spending more time punishing people who REALLY deserve it, quite frankly. Like Kenneth Lay, maybe? Here's a man who stole people's pensions, for Christ's sake. Lay should be behind bars.

Terry
