Living situation - what would you do
Okay, I'm in my new town, I am renting out a room in a house with two very nice older people. It only runsd me $210 a month. However. I kind of want my own place. Many houses here run for about $400 a month. THen I'd have to pay, cable phone, etc.... So I could end up paying over $500 for living. Do you think personal space is worth the money?

I was thinking of staying in my room for a couple months because I can easily save a couple grand. Then move out.

1. save up the couple grand, find the 'perfect' place
sublet that if required later, but only after you get your stuff all cluttered around the house (it's a power thing)

3. A lot depends on your precise financial
situation. If you are comfortable staying with the couple for a few more months, do so. You'd be foolish not to. Save up a lot of money -- maybe even enough for a down payment on a house or condo of your own. Equity can be a wonderful thing.

Only you know your own personal privacy and space needs. My husband and I have long had separate bedrooms because we each need a lot of space and privacy and it works for us. Other couples are quite happy snuggled together in the same room and bed all the time.

4. Can't say, I spend $675/month for a 1 bedroom apartment.
Actually I can. For a house, only $400/month? Go for it!

And who needs cable, apart from basic service with the few channels they forget to lock down?

5. Are you serious?!
In Canada you're paying these prices? 500 bucks a month?!
Are you telling me that a house in Canada is 400/mo for rent or for
mortgage? Come on down here and pay out the nose for a cheapo house..

7. only because of where I am
It's a small town with a depressed economy. I thought about buying. But I spoke to the town's economic development officer. He says unless I have the cash to by a place out of town with some acreage..don't do it.

6. If you can hang for a month or two in your current situation, do it...
Save the $$$ so you'll have it on hand if you need it.

But in the long run, yes, I put a premium on personal space, and it's great to have. You can come home, knowing that *nobody* else is gonna cross that threshold unless you want them to.

While you're saving some cash, you can look leisurely for a place that you really like.

10. 50s early 60s
Very nice and respectful....it's SOOOO cheap but I really want my own place. I think I'll stay a month or two, save some dough and then move out. I'm sure once I'm used to it I'll be okay.
