So, anyone else not watch tonight's Hollywood wankfest?
I have a long-standing grudge against the Academy for being a bunch of bullshit munchers that tend to reward mundanity and convention over artistic vision. So tonight, I would like to express one simple sentiment:

Fuck the Oscars.

1. All I want is a text list of the "winners" so I can rant and be done with it.
Everything I try to load is full of flash and video that I can't load. I can't believe that I'm spending this much time on it.

14. Thank you kind sir.
I tried variety.com, yahoo, news.google, and was stymied by this old OS.

Much appreciated.

2. My dear ghostsofgiants!
Nope, I didn't watch...

We've watched it less and less since we've stopped going to the show. We now wait for the movies to come out on DVD...

It's a lot nicer watching them at home!

Also, tonight, I've been running my poetry thread:

3. I'm just not into any awards show.
I'll read the list of winners tomorrow, and that will be the extent of my caring.

Not that I care if YOU* like the The Oscars, they're just not for me.

* the "Royal" you that is.

7. Not only am I not interested one bit in the "award" show, I'm proud to say
I've not seen a single movie up for nomination.

I'll buy Milk when it comes out on DVD, though.

9. There's nothing more boring than the Oscars
except for all the other awards shows. And I am thoroughly sick of the Heath Ledger hype. That movie frankly sucked. Way too long, too many car crashes and stupid shit like that. But hey, play a creepy weirdo and die (in real life), you get an Oscar.

10. It's art. It's not competition.
And I think everyone understands that. I think it's just fun to talk about and, if you're a filmmaker, to be recognized.

I still think The Wrestler, Wall-E, The Dark Knight, and Let the Right One In were the four best movies of the year.

I don't have the attention span for it. I'm very glad Sean Penn won though. He's great.

I guess Mickey Rourke can retreat to his island and his gorilla now. He shouldn't have dissed Courtney. He made my special shit list just recently with that bullshit comment. Once somebody makes it to that shit list, they never get back off it. :nopity:

I haven't watched it in years, many many years, since the time that as a kid we didn't have cable and it was the only thing on TV. I havent watched any of the movies en nomination, so I would be lost anyway.

awards were even on last night. Put a few logs in the fireplace, plopped a great DVD in the player and had a nice evening watching a good film.

24. Hear, hear!
The entertainment industry pats itself on the back so much and so often that it's nearly impossible to keep track of it all.

Any piece of art (visual or audio) I appreciate if it's good IMO. I don't need some committee of whoevers to tell me what's good and what isn't. Mini rant over.

My wife really likes that kind of stuff. I think it is just a chance for the film industry to part itself on the back for three hours.

28. The turning point was when the Academy awarded
best picture to 'Shakespeare in Love' instead of
'Saving Private Ryan' in 1999!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shakespeare_in_Love

That was the moment I KNEW the awards weren't based
on merit in all cases.

However, I did watch to see when Sean Penn won last night.

He did deserve 'Best Actor', no doubt about it.

And I'm also glad to see that I didn't miss much, either.

The Oscars are the like the Grammys. They both suck and for the same reasons.
