Thanks for saving TWO lives!!! When you adopt from a shelter, not only do you give a home to the one you adopt, but you open up a space for the shelter to save yet ANOTHER one.

So - thank you very much. I hope you and Hurley will have many, many years of companionship.

32. He looks stridently comfy!
Over the years I have learned the importance of quality food. Especially after the pet food recall of '07 there is just too much unknown crap in the standard store brand and many major brands foods.

Here's what I feed my girls: http://www.frrco.com/show_prod.php?cat=f&mode=s&id=1 Comes in at just over $2 per pound. UPS ships it in. Don't have to open cans. They haven't changed their recipe in fifteen years, it is very low ash, uses food quality meats-no by products. FRR has never had a recall.

Whatever you feed him he is getting his first good nights sleep in a long time. He will repay his indenture with purrs and (if you're lucky) head butts.

I have four indoor and three outdoor (more like managed ferals outside-- have to trap them for vet visits--usually too traumatic but I was able to get them all spay/neutered)

Good job!

52. That is the most beautiful inky toed tabby!
The "M" on the forehead is an Egyptian royalty tag ;) Nice photo

Trapping is very hard, and traumatic for the critter but Tomahawk brand makes the gear that I trusted. I got a double-door cat size. First trapping was for the spay/neuter and they beat themselves up in the trap at first. A towel immediately over the trap has a blinder effect which saves them from too much scraping. I took them to an operation that specializes in managed feral populations, $50 for spay/neuter and three shots.

I have only successfully retrapped once out of necessity.

Always consider if the trap trauma is better than not getting treated. It is a struggle. I am not a safehouser or a vet tech, just an interested and concerned neighbor.

DON'T LEAVE TRAPS UNATTENDED FOR MORE THAN A FEW MINUTES!

53. You probably will soon need a bigger house with a yard
vet techs cannot not bring home at least some of the surplus that cruises through. Unbelievable, the detritus from the companion animal trade. The loving purring headbutting flotsam. The lucky ones who hit the jackpot will require a staff of at least one! Good job on the rescue-- that is one pretty kitty.

Today I was in PetSmart buying catfood for my crowd and of course had to wander by the Cat Adoption cages. They had some lovely kitties.

I want them all. Can't have them all though.

42. Excellent point!
When I adopted my kitty, the foster told me that she'd had him for almost a year and no one had asked about him because he was an "older cat" and most people wanted kittens. Not that there is one thing wrong about wanting to give a homeless kitten a forever place, but older cats need lots of love, too. At that moment, I knew he was coming home with me. He had such a hard life, but is still such a loving and cuddly little guy.

I would like to discuss this wonderful little cat with his kittenhood "owners" that left him outside 24/7 in Minnesota winters and cost him one and a half ears. I will bring my own baseball bat. And it will have nails driven through its business end.

And like everyone has said, bless you for adopting a shelter kitty. They know when they have it good. My Madimi was one too. I think her time might have been almost up. We can't find homes for them all, but making a home for one - it sure matters to that one!

my love:
