If your first name is Stanley, is it mandatory
that your nickname be "Stush" or "Stosh"?

Just curious (and bored out of my wits on a Saturday night)...

1. I always thought Stan the Man
was the preferred nick.

2. Well I've heard of that one too.
But I was wondering if "Stosh" (or "Stush" if you're in Pittsburgh)was universal. I saw an episode of M*A*S*H today and one of Hawkeye's friends was nicknamed Stosh, and I got to wondering.

As I said earlier, I am VERY bored!

3. It's a Polish-American thing
There are Stosh's in New York, too. If you're a non-Polish-American Stanley, they don't call you "Stosh."

5. Okay, it's a Polish thing.
But if you're Polish, and your name is Stanley, is it mandatory that you be called Stush? Meaning, it's the diminutive, or something? As in: many Roberts are called Bob, Williams are called Bill, etc.?

Boy, I am REALLY bored!
