45. Actually, it's because...
... they are drunk, and drunk people say and do stupid things. Sober people have times when they MAY be stupid, but also have times they can be smart. Drunk people are never smart. Just drunk.

3. It's a combination of immaturity and
stupidity. It's behavior that most people get over by the time they're 17 or 18 years old.

Why it happens here so much is beyond me.

If you thought my lounge thread was egotistical (which I don't), then every thread in this lounge would match your criteria, because they all seek responses based on a DUer's experience. Say, someone posts pics of their kittens or puppies--is that egotistical of the person to do so?

82. That's funny....
I once posted a thread saying that the "ask me anything" threads were getting kinda tiresome, and ended up getting called nasty names and people put me on ignore. This was back when there were about 10 of them for every thirty threads in the lounge.....Funny how you won't receive the same treatment for saying the exact same thing nowadays.

And as far as posting threads about drunkenness, I think we all need to lighten up a bit. I don't drink, and I find drunkenness disgusting. Alcohol sucks and tastes horrible.....But I wouldn't take another DUer to task for posting a thread about it. If you don't like the tone of a thread from it's title, don't read it. Especially in the lounge, you're gonna get thousands of threads that are nonsensical time wasters. It's up to you to be discriminating about it. If you want to insult people, go to GD 2004. There'll be lots of DUer's who'll be happy to have insults hurled at them and will give back as good as they receive.

And nobody posts on DU with the expectation that they will be ignored. We post to find a sense of community, to get pats on the back, to find succour. These are strange times, and we are all in need of commisseration with other like minded people. That's why we're here. ALL posts are "look at me!!!!" posts when you really get down to it. Posting a thread deriding someone's attempt to get attention is just another way of posting a thread...to get attention!

It's the lounge, people. Relax.

44. I sure did! That party was fun.....
Last night, I'd danced with my friends, and then went upstairs to hang out with them. I think a couple of girls did body shots on each other. I was ranting about politics with my friend, Claudia, who worked on the Dean campaign. I'd written her in for ward of the district when I had cast my vote for Dean. Then we went back downstairs to rejoin the party. Someone threw a rock in the door window, that caused a lot of commotion. I think the campus police came by and arrested the guy that did that.

Last night's house party was a hell a lot better than the last time we had a house party, which ended up being canceled twice due to someone pulling the fire alarm.

Ahhh, can't wait for spring break.

I'm a bit surprised why Slinkerwink's drunken thread is bothering you as much as it seems to be. Slinkerwink's thread certainly had nothing to do with vanity or ego. It was merely a silly thread about being drunk. I think you're misinterpreting Slinkerwink's motivations for starting the thread...

Besides, almost every thread started in the lounge can be considered a vanity thread and "egotistical" by your standards. Do you feel the same way about other personal threads, like "here's pics of my new kitty," or "my grandmother just died?" Many, many threads in the lounge are personal in nature - of those that speak of the "self," are they equally egotistical?

I wouldn't get myself upset about it (and alienating other DUers in the process). It's really not worth it...

On a lighter note... have you been outside this morning? It's bee-utiful! :hi:

58. Hey :)
Though we disagree on the motivation of slink's thread, I'm past it.

I went for a walk this morning, it really is nice outside! Spring's coming :)

Chuckiemutt spent the entire morning outdoors & I sat on my front porch and drank coffee. Not exactly spring yet, but I'll take what I can get! :hi:
