Poll question: Favorite U2 album
For space reasons, I've excluded the live releases and combined Pop and Zooropa. Since most of us haven't listened to No Line On The Horizon yet, I'm excluding that as well.

1. I'm still voting for "Under a Blood Red Sky"
Live at Red Rocks.

4. Fair enough
I just ran out of spaces on the poll. I love that album, too.

Somewhere, there is a bootleg of a 1983 show that was broadcast on the King Biscuit Flower Hour, from the Orpheum Theater in Boston. I had a radio-to-casette version of it at one time. It is, believe it or not, even better than "Under A Blood Red Sky", especially since opens with a thundering version of "Out of Control".

2. I gotta go with Joshua Tree.
I love "Red Hill Mining Town", it's a hidden and often forgotten gem:

And the instrumental opening to "Where the Streets Have No Name" still gives me chills.

21. I like "One Tree Hill"
I also like the desert themes evident in the album as well as the references to real things in the desert, like Las Vegas, "fighter planes", etc.

What a great album.

I saw this show live-
http://concerts.wolfgangsvault.com/dt/u2-concert/20052170-8284.html

My answer is always going to be October. I did see them 2 other times after they got huge but that first show i saw was the best, they will never be better then they were in 1981. I had to go into to Boston to Stairway to heaven to get that album in the import section.

5. OLD PERSON ALERT!!!
I remember buying an Alarm t-shirt at Stairway back in the day! The one with the red star and the band's silouhette on a hilltop.

9. I saw them on their Zoo tour, that was at Foxboro stadium which i'm sure is called something else
now, that show kind of sucked, the sound quality was lacking.

15. Foxboro Stadium is, thankfully, no more
It was demolished in early 2002. That dump was replaced by Gillette Stadium, home field for the New England Patriots and New England Revolution. Gillette is located on the old stadium's parking lot. It's a much better facility, although it is still a pain in the ass to get in and out of there.

Followed by October. The live version of "I Will Follow" recorded in Boston from the UK "Gloria" 45 is their best moment on record, but I honestly haven't really listened to them for many, many years..

6. I can't choose one.
They all have songs on them that do something for me and I LOVE the new album. U2 is one of the best bands of modern day. I love them!!! So happy to have new stuff from them - I gotta go get it TODAY!

13. I'm on my 3rd listen
There are only 2 songs that I don't love and even those are good. His voice does something crazy in my stomach and with the music behind it - it's so good.

*only love, ONLY LOVE can leave such a mark.

11. War
October is a close second. I thought Joshua Tree was overexposed and every subsequent album overproduced. I like the rawness of their early albums. 'Course, this could just mean I'm showing my age. Saw them live at a HOCKEY RINK in '83. Incredible show.

14. "every subsequent album overproduced"
AHEM*brianeno*AHEM

I tend to agree. I like Steve Lillywhite's production much better. When Lillywhite re-entered the picture, the band seemed to get some of its mojo back.

Of course, I am a sucker for a lot of Lillywhite's 1980s work:

Big Country: The Crossing, Steeltown, Wonderland
Peter Gabriel: Peter Gabriel III ("Melt")
Simple Minds: Sparkle In The Rain
The Pogues: If I Should Fall From Grace With God
Marshall Crenshaw: Field Day

16. I'm not allowed to invoke the name of the Almighty Eno
Mr. MG worships at his altar daily. (Although he would be the first to admit he doesn't like Eno's work with some rock gods. He was very disappointed in Eno's recent collaboration with David Byrne and wouldn't buy the CD.)

19. I got torn to pieces here for saying I preferred Lillywhite
Very different appeals, it seems. Eno appeals to the artsy-intellectual hipster set; Lillywhite to the I'm So Passionate I'm Going To Explode heart-on-the-sleeves crowd.

I am, very obviously, a member of the latter group!

24. Achtung Baby got stuck in the CD slot of my car my entire junior year of high school
hence, it is not only the greatest U2 album, but the greatest album from any band of all time. I can probably still sing the entire damn thing.

I had to pick one, so "Achtung Baby" it was. The Zoo TV Tour was the best concern I ever witnessed.
