4. Now that I have seen both halves
so very, truly heartbreaking. No one will ever know the true story. The dead can't tell, and the living aren't telling the truth because they are battling their own battles.

This is the saddest thing I have seen in a long time. I think I will order the book written by the judge, but I am not so sure he was unbiased. Right now, I am in the fathers camp. I have been wrong before, and I could be right now.

5. I tend to believe the father too. The system seemed to fail
this child as it does so often.

I was looking for the sneezing panda...

Which is so cute, and I somehow happened upon this terrible story.

11. Take that anger...
and put it to something productive. Every US state has both a state agency for child services and a non-governmental NPO dedicated to oversight, child welfare and advocating for improvement to the system...call either/both and ask what you can do. They always need people to fundraise, gather signatures to get referendum on the ballot, distribute information, organize, write letters, host informational meetings, etc. Become an advocate. Ask what you can do.

As an activist (for many causes), I've always liked anger...anger is productive when focused. Anything you can do, even if you only have 5 minutes to spare, helps. Truly.

20. I do.
I work with an organization called PROTECT.
http://www.protect.org/

I got involved with them because of author Andrew Vachss. He writes some very good, but very noir mysteries. His protagonist is an ex-con named Burke who sets up pedophiles.
Vachss is a child advocate in real life. He has been threatened a great deal.

8. It is my opinion that the Judge who gave this little girl back to her
mother should also be disbarred and punished under the full extent of the law. In my opinion he is just as culpable.

12. Probably not. A little 2 1/2 year old beaten to death while her
father was in Iraq. The step-father is thought to have kicked/punched her so hard in the stomach that it killed her. But there was a lot of abuse that led up to that point.

16. You don't want to look...
Edited on Wed Mar-04-09 12:49 PM by Chan790
in a long line of child abuse murder stories I've ever seen or heard, all heart-wrenching and terrible, it's among the worst.

I tried to find you a good synopsis, but they're all biased, they all want to show one person or party as "the good guys". There isn't one. Suffice it to say that everybody involved is a bastard from the convicted killer (Especially him. If there was ever a guy I want to die before they come up for parole, it's this guy. Who murders a 2 1/2 year old?! He's also suspected but not convicted of sexually assaulting the child.), to both parents and grandparents, to the judge and even the prosecutor. It's a case I was familiar with for a while and I knew as soon as I saw the title of the video what was coming and I'm still enraged.

This is a good background, although it's biased towards the mother: http://www.hope4kidz.org/news/texas/TX_09162007.html

This one gives a bit more background into the mother, but was basically ghostwritten by the paternal grandmother: http://bonner.wordpress.com/2007/08/19/the-kelsey-briggs-story-and-video/

21. The biological father is not as innocent as the videos make him out to be.
Edited on Wed Mar-04-09 02:08 PM by FedUpWithIt All
The mother filed domestic abuse charges against him before the baby was born and claims he caused an earlier miscarriage.

I am afraid this baby was stuck in a life chock full of assholes.

In May 2001, Raye Dawn Briggs told Meeker police her husband slammed her against a wall, his forearm to her throat. She said they began arguing because she had not super-sized his value meal from McDonald's, according to a police report. A police officer wrote that he saw injuries on her neck and collarbone.

22. Damn!
Take a look at this.

The man the father is accused of assulting in my previous post is named Marie Larson.

http://www.newsok.com/kelseys-father-charged-in-assault/article/1907783

Two months earlier an aide to Raye Dawn Smith's attorney claimed that the judge who returned the child to the mother was irresponsible and made the decision too quickly. The aide is a close friend of Marie Larson (who two months later was assulted by Lance Briggs).

Ugly case.

23. It really is. I did find something about the mother.
Like I said earlier, I am not sure this little girl stood a chance with either parent. It is such a shame that our children can be failed by the system. This probably happens far more often than I care to think about.

There are, sadly, entirely too many of them.

their protection and their life line. We are all they have.
