I'm the FLAME QUEEN and I haven't noticed it, but I've read like atleast in three threads that there were some heavy flaming going on somewhere. I must have hidden some threads and missed all the drama AARHG

5. There's always been flaming in the lounge...some examples

A bunch of childless people have ganged up on people with children in the past.
A bunch of people with children have ganged up on the childless.
A former poster famous for smoking too much posted a bunch of homophobic rants.
Women have ganged up on men.
Men have ganged up on women.
People who drive SUV's have ganged up on people who hate them and vice versa.

As long as there are flames and lounges, there will be flaming in the lounge.

Personally, though, I think it is supressed sexual energy due to the fact that sex threads are now taboo...but then I recall there used to be flaming in the lounge over sex threads too.

9. from what I've seen
it tends to occur when somebody on a high horse decides to judge somebody else's opinion/behavior/drunkenness/tv viewing habits, etc.

Someone says "I'm drunk and watching Friends" and you'll see people come running in to tell him that a) drinking sucks and you suck for doing it and b) Friends sucks: shoot your television.

Some people just can't pass up an opportunity to tell everybody how superior they are.
