1. Stunning. How I miss that place! Link please?
I used to have the link until the guy maintaining it took it off line about a year or two back.

3. Thanks and I'm jealous.
It was easy to go there from Santa Monica up the 5 and 99, etc.

Now I'll have to go over the Golden Gate and go in the east gate which seems more of an ordeal and not as pretty.

5. It's still a long way to get there from San Diego.
400 miles total, we don't get there in one day because my Mom is 90 and traveling wears her out. She likes it though, but it tires her out. Someone here on DU used to live just 3 miles from the entrance gate. I think late May/early June is the best time to go there.

14. 3 Miles from the Gate.
I know that little town where I assume they're from. My husband had a friend there and I know his parents still live there.

6. Apparently right near the entrance gate and flagpole,
based on the view from their webcam. I guess it's totally inaccessible at the moment. Maybe we'll stop and have lunch at the Tioga Pass lodge!

9. I love Yosemite!
Paul and I honeymooned at Yosemite and I wanted to take the grandkids this year but things are booked up for the only time we can go. It's a magical place to me.

11. me too
Even though I had seen pictures of it for decades, I still gasped out loud when we came out of the Wawona tunnel to the Tunnel View overlook. And again when we came around the bend and Yosemite Falls came into view. Again at Glacier Point. I felt like a 5-year-old boy seeing the world for the first time. I remember standing taking pictures and turning around and realizing that a 1600-foot waterfall, Sentinel Falls, was right behind me and I didn't even know it. And the river, the wildflowers, the wildlife, at every step there was something beautiful and dazzling. It's like another world that is better than this one.

12. Tuolumne Meadows is blissful too
Stop along the road and sit by a creek and you just don't want to get back in the car.

13. I am planning to, if that road is open. My neighbors got lucky and went on a 7-day hike
2 summers ago, with a ranger who has encyclopedic knowledge of the area. A group of 13 hikers plus the ranger. 60 miles through Yosemite over 7 days. They ate meals at the huts, so all they had to carry with them were their clothes. They have documented the trip extensively at their web site:
