Drinks on the dock first time this year.
It's in the 70s in coastal Alabama.
So we fixed drinks and went out and sat on the dock for a while.
Nice breeze from the south.
It's on a quiet bay.
If you want to google map it, enter 'Wolf Bay, Alabama'.
We're at the northern end on that roundish 'peninsula' on the western edge.

A couple of porpoises, aka bottle nosed dolphins, came by just tearing up the water. Feeding on a school of mullet.

There were a couple of pelicans making low passes, just inches from the water, looking for supper. And a great blue heron glided by.

High overhead an osprey soared. Also looking for supper, I guess.

Life is good.
At least for now.
:-)

1. My dear trof...
Now, that just sounds wonderful...

Dolphins, pelicans, a great blue heron, and an osprey?

How wonderful!

Life IS good...

I'm happy for you both!

6. We were damn lucky. The short story:
NH took our house by eminent domain for a highway project in '92.
We came here in a pre-retirement move and bought on the bay in '93.
Always wanted to live on the water, but never could afford it.
This time we were barely able to squeak it through.
Due to the poor local economy, and some other factors, waterfront property prices had plateaued for about 4 years.
We were at the right place at the right time.

Even in today's down real estate market, the place would still bring 2.5 to 3 times what we paid for it. And the mortgage is small enough to manage...so far.

2. It sounds lovely
We have a cold, driving rain here in SE Michigan with a little thunder and lightning thrown in for good measure. But just a week ago I was in Key West. I saw my first pelicans in the Keys when we stopped for lunch but they were very uncooperative about posing for pictures.

5. We got more Michigander snow birds here than you can shake a stick at.
I was talking to a guy from Michigan at the hardware store yesterday who was telling me how to grow upside-down tomatoes.

7. Not too many wolves now.
But we got black bear, coyotes, bobcat, deer, fox, armadillos, about 3 million squirrels, and maybe a few cougars. Sightings have been reported, although the state fish & game folks poo poo it.

We also have rattlesnakes and moccasins, but you rarely see them.
