After more than a decade of driving in WI winters....
last night I joined the "douchebag in a ditch" club, yes, I forgot everything I know about winter driving, went into a slide, spun around three times and wound up in a ditch with the front end of the car literally buried under the snow. Of course the tow truck guy gave me that "typical woman driver" look and grinned like an idjit the whole time and now I think I should probably move to Illinois or something to atone for my driving sin :(

7. I did that nine years ago...
my first time driving in the snow, I slipped on some ice, spun around, and went in the ditch. Stupid I was, I tried pushing the car out of the ditch :banghead:

I came out of it okay, and you did too. That's what counts. :)

10. Here in WI you are allowed to go in the ditch once a decade
and not be considered an idiot....so don't let it happen again!

Glad you're ok.

11. Been there, done that...
I grew up in upstate NY. I was coming home from basketball practice one night and hit a patch of ice at the top of the hill. My car went sliding and slid right into a ditch.

Not much you can do about it!

15. Sister - must you do everything I do?
:P

I had my very first accident, ten days ago. I hit a deer, going 50mph in a Jeep Cherokee. It wasn't pretty - and I'm still shaken up.

I'm glad you're okay.

17. Sh*t happens. Even to the best of us.
Years ago in NH Miz t. somehow got the truck hung up IN a snowbank ON our mailbox. A passing sheriff's deputy finally had to remove the mailbox from the post to get her out of it.

He said 'quote' "Your husband's gonna kill you when he gets home."
She said "He certainly WILL not!"
And I didn't.
Sh*t happens.
And we move on.
And so it goes.
:-)

20. Never mind.. accidents happen...
If you want to nearly avoid winter snow driving move here to central NC. We hardly get snow and when it happens you have the excuse to stay home. However we do have deer and yes I have clobbered two in the past - hitting deer at 60 mph isn't pretty.

I'm not trying to make you feel better....I'm trying to learn from your mistake. I moved to Omaha in '06 after 20 years in Florida.

30. I'm worried about myself...
I've never driven in icy conditions, but I'm flying into Milwaukee tomorrow. I'm going to Racine where it's been raining, and tonight it's going to freeze--and not get above freezing tomorrow. I have to drive around looking for a place to live, and I'm more than a little nervous.

Two decades is a pretty good record, though. Can you tell me some of the basics so I might survive this trip?
