Good morning Lounge
How are you today?

Is spring showing where you live? I see spring flowers pop up all over the place here but the weather is still nasty. But supposed to get up in the 50s towards the weekend. Maybe this time it isn't just a teaser but spring really is coming!! :)

10. Good Night. MissHoneyChurch.
It's certainly not Spring here yet, but we're all getting ready for it.

Our garden-seed orders came in this week; we're gonna grow us some
non-GMO veggies this year. All heirloom varieties.

Black tomatos, white tomatos, and everything in between.
Some red onions from SC that horticulturalists thought were EXTINCT
until about 5 years ago, and some bunching onions that have been
popular in China for about 30 centuries.

Anyway, I need to be at work soon, And I've got about 4 hours
to sleep betwen now and then...
So I guess I should go to sleep now, no? :hi:

It looks like a wonderful spring day is coming our way. Highs near 70, and a few showers.

But the rest of the week will be back into the 40's and maybe low 50's.

Seeing as there was snow and low 30's this time last week, complaining would only make me look silly.

I can do that on my own.

It is now mud season, although snow would not be unheard of. The guy who plows my driveway appears to have shifted the blacktop about 3 feet in his head, and tore up my neighbors lawn all winter. I wonder what will become of that...

Today is my last day of work this week :woohoo:

I am flying to VA to visit my friend tomorrow afternoon - yes, THAT friend :bounce:. It's supposed to rain the entire time I am there, but I was promised lots of movies and snuggling on the couch, so I guess the rain isn't a bad thing ;)

Please keep posting those fabulous flower pictures, maybe they will instill hope in me that Spring may come to this cold land one day.

Right now we're having gusts of wind ranging from 35-45 mph! Chill factor is -8 F. Certainly can't pack the long underwear away yet.

I tried growing tomatoes out on my patio last summer - didn't work. The pots were big enough, so I really don't know why they didn't do too well. I'm thinking of trying one of these hanging tomato thingies. I heard that they really work. http://www.oldfashionedliving.com/tomato2.html

supposed to pop out for during the next few days. One can only hope.

Yes, please ask AirmensMom about the hanging tomatoes. I'd be very interested. But I wonder if the expense is worth it. I can walk to the Farmer's Market from my house - that's where I get fresh produce during the summer months. Right now I'm starting to miss my garden. Last summer was the first summer in eons that I did not have a veggie garden.

28. Not much expense to it.
My neighbor used a 5-gallon bucket, which lots of home-improvement things come in. Even if you have to buy one, they're not expensive. Stay away from the specialty ones that are made JUST for growing tomatoes. :eyes:

I thought about trying it this year. I have a sturdy clothesline post that would work just fine. Wish I could remember what variety my neighbor grew in his bucket. I think it was a regular sized one, not a cherry tomato. I'll ask him about it next time I see him. He was just over collecting my tomato seeds, which means he'll have to give me some plants. We all saved seeds last year and I guess I'm the only one who got a lot of them.

30. Hi AirmensMom!
By expense I mean if purchasing one of those hanging tomato things. They are about $20 bucks. I can buy a lot of tomatoes from the Farmer's Market for a twenty.

Last year I bought pots and soil, so that was out-of-pocket expense, but I got plants from a friend. I'm hoping she'll give me some again this year, b/c I'm literally set to go, and would certainly give it another try.

Great idea to save seeds. It takes a long time to start tomato plants from seeds.

When I had my garden I would purchase heirloom tomatoes plants from a local greenhouse. They are SIMPLY MARVELOUS!

31. Yes, tomatoes are relatively
easy to grow, so I'm wondering why mine did not do too well last year. I'd certainly try again, it's clearly worth the effort (or lack of ;). And you are right, there is that satisfaction of eating something you grew yourself.

I will say, with the blind polling of the calendar last year, we got a much more even distribution of votes. I think people are influenced when they see how other people vote. (Sort of like they subconsciously want to go with the winner, not with the one they like best)

45. G'day, MissH
:hi:

Played soccer last night, with half a team. 4 of 6 guys, including our captain-manager, said that they couldn't play. To add insult to injury, it was the grudge match--the present team vs. the deserters that broke away and made their own new team. :grr: Fortunately, I borrowed a few from the game before ours. Having the late (10:15p) game sux. :(

I don't know the final, I thought we lost 4-3, but I get a text saying we won 5-2. Either, I got another goal, and I wanted it against them. I'll know when the standings are updated in a couple of days. :P
