Mine is Azeda Booth. They remind me a little bit of Sigur Ros. You can download their EP for free at their web site. http://www.azedabooth.com/

Don't ask what a 30 year old man was doing at Warped Tour (free tickets from a band on tour)... Most of the day was boring but Bedouin Soundclash killed it.

Edited on Wed Mar-11-09 12:38 PM by ghostsofgiants
Most bands I like are relatively obscure.

The Marked Men - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJG1HE6_aYo
Past Lives - http://www.myspace.com/pastlivesmusic
Jaguar Love - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwivuiXh0HE
Fucked Up - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGSSgPNMcvc

And for fun, a couple local bands that would definitely be considered obscure to you guys:

That's as obscure as I can go, because they're a local band. Probably my favorite local band, though. Certainly top 3.

As far as national acts, I guess that all depends on what you consider obscure. I'm amazed how many people haven't heard of The Hold Steady, and they're one of the best things happening in music right now. The Drive-By Truckers are kinda similar -- not sonically, but as far as a band that's put out a bunch of great albums but no one's every heard of.

I think Fleet Foxes may have had the best debut album of 2008.

I think Neko Case has the best album (so far) of 2009.

22. Hi, bif!
Are solo singers also ok? Here are some of my discoveries of late:

Fransisca London (pop/rock artist, though more lo-fi than what you hear on the radio)
Molly Jenson (generally singer songwriter, but surprisingly hard rock at times)
The Love Willows (slightly retro-pop/rock)
Oh, Alexis! (folk, alt/country)
Beautiful Small Machines (new duo featuring Bree Sharp - it's new-wavey pop)
Rosi Golan (singer/songwriter)
Karmina (singer/songwriter, power pop)

They were big in 90s (although they had releases in the 80s) and I think had a release in early 2000s.

One of the greatest under-appreciated bands ever. Although, they were a bit out of control at times.

If you ever saw them live, you were in for a treat--or at least a shock.

Damn I miss them.

38. Yeah! I wouldn't consider them *that* obscure, but they are underappreciated.
'Psychocandy' and 'Darklands' are probably two of the best albums of the 80's, and 'Honey's Dead' and 'Stoned and Dethroned' aren't far behind for the 90's. And I just can't get enough of their sex/drugs/hungover/brokenhearted lyrical iconography.

"Cherry Came Too" (Beach Boys melody + awesomely dark (but somehow hopeful) lyrics + suggestive (deliberately, I'm sure) title = genius!): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OZjsrDvwgI

Psychocandy is one of the great records of the 80's; I saw them and Chuck Berry (in 2 different shows) on the same night in 84 or 85 and it was awesome.

I think I'm going to put "The Hardest Walk" on my show tonight..

70. Silversun Pickups.
Not so incredibly obscure not to get some radio play, but still not really a household name.

71. Crescent Shield
I haven't picked up an album by a new metal band in more than fifteen years--but think I'm gonna go get this.

This might be enough to make me re-read my old novels by Eddings, Chalker--and then when I'm done with the warm-up, Tolkien!

81. For 20 years they were a staple for teenagers
And what was cool about it is that every 15 year old thought they'd discovered them all on their own. The last few years the teenagers have moved on, though. Oh, well -- maybe this 80s retro thing will bring them back.

77. All you people are making up these names, right?
Well, except for Jesus & Mary Chain and Violent Femmes.

78. Nope. that's why they're obscure.
And will probably never earn any money in music.
