3. If you PM me some basic data, I can probably tell you where you're from.

i.e. Your last name and your mother's maiden name as well as your grandmothers' if you know them.

I took a course in genealogy several years ago and contemplated a career in it. I just do it for fun now.

I really appreciate that, but I should have made it clear that I wasn't included in those who don't know their genealogy. Mostly I was thinking of orphans, children of orphans, descendants of slaves, people who never knew a parent... situations like that.
