Happy 40th Birthday Allman Brothers Band!
last week and this week at the Beacon in NYC! Some incredible guests, including Eric Clapton tonight. Trey and Page from Phish, Taj Mahal,Levon Helm and many others. There has even been a possible Dickie Betts appearance.....

Lots of chages thru the years but the band is till fire. Now they have two of the best guitar players in the world in the band in Warren haynes and Derek Trucks.

3. I saw this when it actually aired in 1990
Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Promoting "Seven Turns", one of the best comeback albums in rock history.

They play "Good Clean Fun", followed by "True Gravity", which is backed up by Doc Severinsen and his orchestra:

6. You know I once had a Loooong conversation with Gregg and Dickie about this....
And tehy seemed to be okay with it. Gregg did not really snitch. the Feds set the whole deal up so the ABB would not tour in support of Jimmy Carter. At the time the ABB were the biggest band in the land and they had the youth vote. So the Cons took them down and set up their druggist who ratted everyone out. He was facing serious jail time and he rolled over on them.

I had this convo with them in 1993, when the DEA and the Feds were at the height of the same type of tactics against the Grateful Dead and compared the situation to the ABB situation years before. At the time the GD had many friends in Washington, Kerry, gore etal, and the ABB felt that they were being targeted by the feds for the same reasons.

So, until this conversation, i thought much the same as you do, but seeing gregg and Dickie talk so openly about this (it was Dickie who supposedly got ratted out by gregg) and tell the same story kind of changed my opinion.

7. I bet that Dickie is once again back to telling the truth now, though
since he is out of the band again
Did Gregg explain why he testified in court against Scooter Herring? Or was that also a "set up"?

8. Dickie did not return the offfer to join the band this week....
And we did not get that in depth into the ratting out part of the situation. But Dickie seemed to be okay with it, so I let it go. I was more interested in the political angle and did not want to stir up too many bad feelings.
