She actually said, "I know you're trying, but there's cake over here if you want any."

:wtf:

I find this exceedingly inconsiderate.

1. I started a diet recently, and the first day of it EVERYONE offered me food.
... BTW, if your doctor ever recommends you try Adipex, find out if you can break it in half.

I took a whole one and GEEZUS, it was scary. But doc says I can break them in half -- I was concerned, because some of those things are extended release and I didn't want all of that dumped in my system!

When I went back for my checkup yesterday he seemed relieved that I was saying they were too strong, instead of not strong enough. Apparently a lot of people like living with their hair standing on end.

2. Offering food to guests is a primal social instinct.
It is hard to overcome. "Breaking bread" with someone means you are good friends.

4. I agree, but this is at work. I don't think such courtesy applies at work.
Especially when the cake was brought in just to have cake, and when it's sitting on an unused desk with a bunch of plates and forks, as a "help yourself" setting.

And just yesterday I told this woman that I was working hard and had been losing weight.

:banghead:

5. My family does that shit to me
I bring my own food when I'm having dinner with them and when we eat out I order what is good for me on my diet. They act offended and start offering food like I'm being rude for not eating what they are. I guess they liked me better when I was 100 pounds overweight. I'll get them trained.

I've lost 42 pounds. Got 62 more to go. Grandma says I don't need to lose any more weight.

6. Unsupportive at best, pathological food-pusher at worst. Whatever the explanation,
it's asshattery at it's finest.

8. Cake isn't my problem....
Sunday was such a beautiful day here, some friends and I rode our bikes around the campus lakes. When we got back to one of their houses, he up and whips up a big ol' pitcher of margaritas to have on his deck.

Now how do you say no to that?

11. I agree, they were just trying to be nice
I always offer food to people. I guess I'm a pathological food pusher.

12. A more important question: Why are you dieting when someone is offering CAKE???
Okay, I'm dieting, too, and have had the same experience this week, so I understand, but I couldn't resist. Forgive me.
