in the Rockies one summer long ago.

She was the sweetest ever ..................

A real character.

In the Rockies, we stumbled across a cattle roundup one day, and Happy, being part border collie, leaped out of the jeep and headed right into the herd, following her instincts. Scared the hell out of me, but, without thinking, I ran right after her, and scooped her up just as a cowboy's great big horse reared up to avoid stomping Happy. We both nearly got it that day.

Later, she had a nighttime encounter with a civet cat. End of camping trip. We had to go back to our place in Aspen to soak her in the stall shower with can after can of tomato juice.

Forever after, when the weather got damp, she smelled faintly of skunk.

When she looked at you, you always felt obligated to reply:

Here Watson relaxes on the sofa.

You don't put your parents down just because they are old and infirm.
Watson is 15 years old, blind, deaf and diabetic. He still enjoys a good meal, walks in the neighborhood and a soft chew. I hope I can be as positive and well adapted if this ever happens to me as Watson is.
He is my hero. And he always has a smile on his face.

I could not stop laughing.

This is Starbuck. I rescued him from a city animal shelter back in December. He's named for the white fleck above his left eye, and because I'm a scifi nerd.
